The interior is amazing! I can't get over how nice this truck drives. No rattles or squeeks with out a doubt the nicest square I have ever driven. The truck still had the owners manual in the glove box.

The only thing that bugged me about this truck was it was a long bed. So decided to make it a short bed. So I took the bed off and took it to my buddies and we made it a short bed. I have another 76 gmc short bed we looked at both trucks side by side.

Couple pics from the process. Brooks made a really Nice kit. Uses 12 factory holes for reference. Inner and outer plate bolts together with grade 8 hardware.

Learned a couple things by doing this.
1. Gas tanks had to be changed. Shortbed tanks are shorter. Picture attached. 2. rear leaf springs are 4" longer after axle compared to short bed. However the frame has factory holes to move rear spring perch 4" forward if desired. I did not change to short bed leaf springs. I can drill new holes for bumper brackets. |

I have driver the truck 20 miles at variable speeds and terrain Kit is solid! I scribed around plates after drive no changes seen. Will be adding some welds because we can. (haha) This pic of truck is after kit installed and driven!!! still needed to cut end of frame

Re: 1973 Chevy Cheyenne-Super "Holyugacamoly"
Next will be getting the truck static dropped, and some new wheels and tires.
Also my buddy Kyle is going to be cutting down the green and white long bed sides making them short bed sides. Cant wait to see it all back together. |

Who is Brooks? Couldn't find any info on them
I like the truck |
Re: 1973 Chevy Cheyenne-Super "Holyugacamoly"
I have never seen a bolt on kit to shorten the frame. I am glad you are welding it too. Nice truck.

Re: 1973 Chevy Cheyenne-Super "Holyugacamoly"
For a lot of reasons a bolt on kit is safer to market and sell to the average consumer. I spoke to Bret the owner of Ride Tech about it at length some years back. He explained to me that from an engineering stand point they are able to account for the strength and load that each fastener will carry and calculate the overall rigidity of that assembly. When you sell a product to be welded you are relying on the field installer and his knowledge of the welding process to create the bond. That is both unpredictable and not smart from a safety stand point. I thought that was an interesting take on the subject.

Re: 1973 Chevy Cheyenne-Super "Holyugacamoly"
A bolt-on kit is the way to go especially for a novice or someone that doesn't own a welder. One can weld it after initial assembly for additional insurance if desired (if they're skilled & have the equipment or the novice could take it to a shop to get just the welding done).
Nice truck. |
Re: 1973 Chevy Cheyenne-Super "Holyugacamoly"
Wow that is really a beautiful truck. Maybe it would be worth the trouble to save the original bed?

Also had a short bed we took apart. Couple pics showing long to short bed floor comparison. Definitely want to do more long to short bed conversions.

Re: 1973 Chevy Cheyenne-Super "Holyugacamoly"
It is cool to see see both laid out side by side. So, 14" difference in the front and 6" in the rear?
