Building a CycleKart

I told member CG I would post a few pictures of the CycleKart that I am building. He has one of them that he has had for a few years and here is a video of his Granddaughter driving it. After I saw his I just had to build one.

I don't have many pictures of the actual build but here are a few of it in different stages.

The frame is built out of 1/16" wall 1"x 3" rectangular tubing, and the front axle is 1 1/2" Dia. 1/8" wall tubing. All the rest of the parts are pretty much go kart parts except the 17" Honda motorcycle wheels.

The picture of me sitting in it was before I did any painting on it and the last picture of the daughter driving it is how it sits as of now. (I couldn't get her out of it) The picture with the rear engine cowling on it is just for mock up. I am going to try and make it out of aluminum. Hopefully I will be able to finish it this Spring. They actually race these things in Arizona and Washington State. If you type the word "CycleKart" into the YouTube search box you will find all kinds of info on them.

That is super cool Leon! Nicely done. Did you follow plans from the Cycle Kart club pages?

They are really fun to bomb around in even though they aren't super fast.

Well I came upon this thread via the general discussion thread CG started. While navigating between both threads I was meaning to leave a comment here.
Leon, I’m always impressed with you’re many talents. I’ve known a handful of guys that can do whatever they set their mind to...you’re one of those guys. I’ve looked up to you for many years, you’ve been a good role model for this crusty ol carpet layer.

This little guy looks like it would be all kinds of fun! I want to see if my 17 year old has any interest in building one. If it's not to inconvenient I'd like to see more details on the CycleKart Leon.

I pretty much stayed true to the "Stevenson" CycleKart plans and measurements on it. There is a lot of info on the net about it.

Showed pics of your sweet ride to my Uncle, the one that built my cyclekart. He was impressed and really likes the way its coming along.

:)... The front springs are Amish buggy seat springs and surprisingly absorb a lot of shock. The rear is an un-sprung live axle. I don't plan on racing mine so it shouldn't be a problem for me. Parade routes are usually pretty smooth....:lol:
