Nos door handles, inside button longer

Nos door handles, have a long button on them and ones that came off have a shorter button on them. Why is there a difference, can I just cut them to the same length as the old ones. Button that pushes on the door latch. Thanks

68-72 door handles are the same 67 are different. How they are different I do not know. Maybe your nos handles are for a 67 or the truck doors/handles are from a 67. Hopefully someone who knows the difference will chime in.

Maybe they are for the Suburbans and Panel trucks with the rear barn doors. The shaft on those are longer and they are hard to find NOS.... I wouldn't cut them off until you find out for sure.

Thanks all. They are still in the GM boxes. I think they are suburban handles too. From the info I have found. Just wanted the boards opinion. Thanks again

You got me curious. I just picked up a set of repop door handles and decided to do a comparison. From the pictures, you can see that the pin is much longer.. around an 1/8 inch or more. Also, the spring on the repop is much smaller than original, and the button seems to not operate as smoothly. I think that I am going to return the new ones, and just try to polish up my old pitted chrome ones. Definitely some cheap Chinese made junk.

Pictures from your computer folders?

1- hit "Go Advanced"

2- Scroll down and hit "Manage Attachments"

3- A window pops up with 5 "browse" buttons, hit one

4- You will be looking at your picture folders, find the picture you want to post

5- Double click one picture you want

6- Click "Upload" and that picture will be posted

Re: Nos door handles, inside button longer

In the past, I've trimmed the longer stud down. No issues with fitment on a truck door. The difference in 67 and 68-72 door handles is the alignment of the screw holes in the handle. 67 doors have a plate on the inside where you mount the outer handle to the door. 68-72 doors you bolt straight to door skin, no inner plate.

Trimmed them today and they worked perfectly. Thanks for all your help! Still have to work on uploading pictures. Thanks
