*Hood Is Warped*

My hood on my 49 on the drivers side is fine but the passengers side has a small warp. Seems pretty flimsy at the warp. What are my options to get it like the drivers side?

Nsb..the rear hood brace runs from hinge to hinge...from the back of the brace there is about 3in off hood hanging past it..and around 8in hanging past down at the hinge..
I would be scared to do much with all that shiny paint on it... Does it look like its "bent" up any at all...or does it look reasonably flat? |

Re: *Hood Is Warped*
So you’re saying there is a gap between the brace and the skin if that’s the case I would consider an adhesive but sum thing less permanent than panel adhesive maybe silicone

Re: *Hood Is Warped*
Maybe cut a couple notches in the brace along the high area and use panel adhesive to attach some 1/4” bolts to the hood skin and then use washers and nuts to pull the skin to the brace? It will be Kind of noticeable when you open the hood though.

Re: *Hood Is Warped*
Find an assembly manual, there is adjustment in the middle of that rear brace. The manual tells how to adjust. Basically you add a washer or take away where the two back braces bolt together. You have the rubber mounted to the cowl for the hood to sit on, you could try to shim it up a little either side of the high spot or on the other side of the hood. You could test first by adding rolled up shop towel in a few spots first to see if it would help.

Re: *Hood Is Warped*
I have zero experience with your era truck, but your situation brings to mind some wisdom imparted to me about 40 years ago by my old body shop teacher.
This guy was a retired shop owner and lifetime body/paint man who had acquired a good many specialty tools over the years. I was attempting to align a hood on a 64 Corvair which had fitment issues similar to yours, when he suggested I use one of his favorite tools for fine tuning various panels. He stepped out back of the shop for a second and returned with a short 2x4 in his hand. Without hesitation, he placed the piece of lumber on top of the front fender and proceeded to bring the hood down, trapping the lumber between the two. After a few heaves on the opposite corner of the hood, he raised the lid, tossed the 2x4, and shut it completely revealing a perfect fit. Ha! |
