Removing front brakes, control arms, where do I start?
 

I’m wanting to replace everything back to including new control arms. I know I have to keep a jack under the control arms to keep pressure on the spring but where do I begin? What do I start taking off first? I’m new at this. Thanks for any help.

The easiest way for us to help you is for you to watch some videos like this one and then you can return here with specific questions. The video linked is for a square body and has slightly different lower control arm mounting.
Be aware that the task you are looking to undertake is dangerous and has the potential to end your life if done incorrectly. I recommend you have someone experienced help you do this the first time. And strongly recommend that if that is not possible to have someone nearby to help if things go seriously awry.

Removed my '72 C20 spindle, upper and lower control arms as a unit. Here's some pics and the vid I watched on YouTube. On the drivers side I even left the caliper and rotor attached. Good Luck.

This definitely seems like the easiest route. Will this also work with my 68 that has drum brakes on it? I think I’ll try this method. Anybody have any reasons why this isn’t a good idea?

Dropping them from the brackets on the cross member probably is the fastest way. You still will need to watch that spring when they come loose. Assuming you are just going to junk what you take off, I wouldnt hassle with trying to separate the pieces.

Yes it will work for the other truck. Make sure you disconnect brake hose before hand :lol:

Also be aware of your feet, that assembly is way heavier than you might think = broken foot. When it drops be ready, if its junk dont try to stop it, let it fall. I would recommend unbolting the bottom control arm first bc it bolts up vertically to the cross member, remove spring and continue. Put the jack under the brake drum assy so when you unbolt the top control arm it wont drop and mess your threads up. Also you want to make sure those threads on the top stay in good shape so spray a bunch of PB Blaster every few hours for a couple days before you plan on taking action.

You will have two nuts on the top control arm, four on the bottom (two u bolts), per side. Take note of your spacers on the top control arms, when you go to replace put them back so the alignment guy is halfway close.
