driveshaft question- transmission swap
 

Hi Fellas,
1968 c10
Short (shortened) Bed
350v8
Bagged- not C notch

I'm finally having my th400 swapped to a 700r4

My current set up is a 2 piece driveshaft with a slip rear driveshaft.

I have an extra 1 piece driveshaft I could swap to. It has a stock yoke. Should I

a) modify (cut) my 2 piece and go with that?
b) go with a 1 piece and use an 8" slip yoke
or
c) go with 1 piece and keep the stock yoke?


truck is at the shop so I need to make a decision pretty quick,

I would do a one piece shaft. not sure if you need the 8" yoke because if your truck is not c-notched I wouldn't think you have that much travel. but that's something you need to consider. Also Its always cheaper to have a shaft shortened opposed to lengthened. If money wasn't an issue I would had one built.

yah. i'm thinking one piece. I'm sure the tranny place knows what they're doing but I just want peace of mind before I have the driveshaft made.
I'm guessing to take at least two measurements, maybe three.

One while the truck is all the way up
One while all the way down
and
probably one at regular driving height

and go from there.

When I did my swap to the 700 years ago I had a one piece made at a shop. Forget what I did for the measurement. But I'll bet it is in the FAQ section. I removed all the hardware for the carrier bearing so as not to have any interference there. Mine is just dropped springs 4".

Success with the swap. Much happier freeway cruising. It might shift from first to second a little late (18mph) but I can live with it. The tranny shop wants it back in two weeks to check for leaks and final adjustments. I might see if they can address the shifting point.

I switched to a single driveshaft and no longer need my slip rear driveshaft or heavy duty carrier, so if anyone near Austin Tx needs one I'll make them a sweet deal.

Next up is a shorty header and tucked pipes.
Do I need a new trailing crossmember or do I cut the existing one?
