1971 Custom 10 Rescue

I just found this little fella this week. It had sat under a tree for about 13 years. It is pretty rusty and looks to have had an interesting life. The bed looks like a 63-66. It was a straight 6 with a three on the tree. It now has a small block V8 and a three speed on the floor. The build starts with the clean up!

Which part of Louisiana are you in? Interesting truck, can't wait to see what you do with it. What are your plans?

Looks like the start of a fun project. I dunno, I kinda like the older box on it.

I am just east of Baton Rouge. The plan is to get it running and driving first, then work on the cosmetics. Nothing too fancy. Going with a shop truck theme.

Took just over 4 hours to break loose the shoes from the drums in the rear to get the wheels to roll. Notice the piles of rust that came out of the drums? And those adjusters are rusted solid.

I haven't tried to turn it over yet. I was going to see if it was free by turning the bolt on the balancer by hand with a breaker bar, but it is an early small block and doesn't have a bolt. So I am going to stick a good battery in there and go from there.

I'd pull all the plugs, pour trans fluid in cylinders, let it soak for a couple of days.

I've seen the corners of blocks broken off of Chevys, rendering the engine useless. If the engine has any potential use, I'd be afraid to screw it up by being in a hurry....just my thoughts...
