yukon pinion nut

Any thoughts on this pinion nut from Yukon? https://www.yukongear.com/productdet...px?ProdID=8443

For some inexplicable reason, this nut is not like the one they provide in their kit. The one in their kit is more like the OEM nut, with a tapered top.

I kind of like the one in the link better as there's more surface on it for the amount of torque you have to apply.

Not sure if I sure use it or talk to Yukon about it or maybe it doesn't mater if it's the same.

I actually got the nut. It looks exactly like the one in the photo.

So used the nut. Was way better than the original or the one in the kit. Easier to torque down. So much so that I over did it the first time and had to use the extra crush sleeve.

Re: yukon pinion nut

Those nuts should have hard washers. The nuts should be an interference lock nut with red thread locker on it for the final pull. If it's not a shoulder nut in grade 8 I'd toss it or swap for an OEM nut. Using the old nut is inviting failure unless you clean it and the pinion shaft and then glue it on with red thread locker, followed with a prayer...;)
