What side mirrors to use?

Ok I need some input on this. Which side mirrors do you think look the best on our trucks? I know it depends on the style of your truck so my truck is short wheelbase lowered 3/5 with 20" chrome Equis 5 star. It will be silver with GMC side molding. Let me know what you think.

I like the stock rectangular mirror on the 3 bolt factory arm. Round heads look cooler but rectangular lets me see more.

The west coast Jr mirrors seem out of place at first but really grow on you and make it unique. It might be a good idea to check them out.

just driving, I like the square ones like some above, but if I am towing, I prefer the West coast Jr's.

:agree: I used to think they looked dumb. Now they look more like a proper truck mirror. I dunno, tastes change ..or mature, or something. Having said that, the stock arm and small round head is hard to beat for its maintenance-free simplicity.

I've looked all over for 5" round convex mirrors. Found some plastic housing ones that look OK for a while, then chip, fade, etc. I went back to stock round, but sure would like to locate a decent 5" round convex mirror if anyone has any suggestions....

I have a set that I retrofitted to peep arms, I just took them off. If your interested you can have them for the ride to you. PM me if interested. Have pics with them on the truck if you want a look.

The JR mirrors are great for visibility, and look good to imop....Adjustable out and in as well. But all depends on what ya want...I like them on my c10 cause I like the looks of those mirrors. :chevy:

I got some replica chevelle rectangle mirrors from autoplicity.Com for 13.55 each. Same ones they sell on ebay for $50 a pair.

The crappy ones I got from LMC are junk. I broke off the head of mt drivers side one by just bumping into it while I was walking by it. Cheap ass plastic.

Re: What side mirrors to use?

I like the way my Impala mirrors look, but for visibility the stock arm and round head provided the best I ever found. I tried rectangular mirrors but they vibrated too much to be useful. Never cared for the Jr. West Coast style as they blocked so much forward view.

I drive my truck every day, use the rectangular mirrors, even turned them the wrong way but you can really see what is behind you.....

started out with them up:

ended up with them out:

I'm partial to the Jr. west coast style also, great visibility & makes for a good arm/hand rest when your rolling down the road with the window down and your arm out:)

Re: What side mirrors to use?

I picked up some 63 64 impala mirrors. Don't know if I will use them or not. I needed something to replace the crappy mirriors I have on my truck now that could cover up the hole that is there now.
I want to run the stock ones on my green truck. I like the west coast mirrors but the create to much drag.

Here is what I am switching to. I found that the round aftermarket mirrors with the mounting posts in the center do not allow for proper adjustment as it relates to the driver- especially on the passenger side. These should help. Just need a coat of ivory paint.

I have a spare '59 Chevy car mirror I think would look cool on my '66. Looks like this:

Re: What side mirrors to use?

That's what I have on mine. Adjustability isn't the best, but I like the appearance enough to put up with it:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/540/yXogSI.jpg

The driver's side works fine but there really isn't a place to position the passenger side for the driver to see it. At least the passenger has something to look out of!

Andice. Where do you find that style mirror ?
LMC, Brothers ?

Re: What side mirrors to use?

Ebay. Search for M151 Willys or other military vehicles. Seems like I recall a thread here or on the 6066 GMC Forum discussing these mirrors. I've yet to receive mine in the mail so I don't know how/if they will fit the mounting hole on the OE mirror arm but I am not afraid of reaming it out if needed. These old army mirrors may even come in a convex shape for added visibility - esp on passenger side. I will post more as I go.

What about the small mirrors of of a 69 chevy truck? My brother has them on his 69 I was eyeing them up for my truck. I still haven't had a chance to see how they look someone on this site might have an idea of fit and functionality?

Here is what I have now , I found moving it forward like they did on the cars with the wrap around windshields made the visibility better by 100 percent .. but that being said I replaced these with round mirrors but they just don't give you enough coverage .. I am going back to a jr westcoast... did anyone have a part number for a convex round 5.5 - 6inches in diameter?? http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...psa7d679b7.jpg

Hey I like that forward movement for those mirrors...yes the jr's are the way to go for sure.
So don't you think its time for good men to stand up like your signature phrase says?

I used 55 chevy bel air mirrors, I can see out of them pretty good and I like em because they are more streamline.

These ebay mirrors are a really close visual match to the factory offset stud mirror head. I bought a half dozen. The studs are a bit longer than factory, (I think metric threads too) and mine did not come with acorn nuts. Also, of the six delivered to me, the glass disc was loose on five. They would've rattled like heck on the road. I complained and was sent five good ones at no charge .. just sayin'.

Andice 01-25-2015 01:07 PM

Re: What side mirrors to use?

Both of mine arrived in great condition with no loose glass. The studs may be a bit longer but who cares. The acorn nuts required are 1/4-28 often used on Harley-Davidson. These mirrors are far superior to the crap sold by LMC, Classic Parts, etc., etc.
