What Model Is This????

2 Attachment(s)
Hi Gang

So last week I introduced myself as a new member, and showed a truck I had purchased.

I was first under the impression it is a C-60. Someone told me today they believe it is a C50...… The title, under "Model" says C65...….. (is there even a C65?).

Anyway....my door plate says the GVW of the truck is 19,500...…

It is a wrecker with the booms removed...…. Opinions please??? C50? C60?

Thank You

definitly frankenstein rear end is from bigger truck. factory would not build that.smaller tires and budd wheels on front.

I'm far from an expert but my C60s gvw is 24k. Which leads me to believe it's a C50. Either way it's a nice truck. And yes there is a C65 but I don't know enough details about them to relay any confidence in my knowledge.

I agree with Old Money.

Looks like someone changed the Rear Axle to a heavier one.

At 19,500, I would say C-50, but your VIN should say for sure.

That's a cool '69! Third digit in VIN will be 5 or 6. GMCs in this time period went by 5500, 6500, etc. It was probably last titled in the '70s or '80s once they dropped the "00".

The rear is heavier. The wheels are actually Budds on front and Daytons on the rear.

Welcome, nice truck!

It's possible that rear end is factory, I've seen several trucks over the years with daytons on the rear and budds up front.

Take a pic of the door jam plate with the vin and we can help ya out more

I wondered about that, Alex, but can't recall a specific truck. I'm thinking the wheels are different diameter. Hard to tell. Did they ever do that?

Hey Det57, tell us about that hood, fender, and signal light that snuck into the corner of your picture. Also... Just one picture??? :whine:

First 6 of the VIN are CE539P. I also have the Protecto- Plate that was down deep in the glove box.

Also, my emergency brake does not seem to want to release. I see it has the brake drum unit on the drive shaft. Do these adjust down like regular drum brakes? I was moving it around the other day and could feel a slight drag but today she doesn't wasn't to move forward at all. Guess I have to climb under and check things out. The E-brake handle feels like its working ok. Maybe some kind of cable adjustment?

Thanks for the welcome and positive comments. The truck is new to me....Im a 57 Chevy car guy...… but had to buy this truck when I saw it...….

The emergency brake is pretty simple and once you get down there and have a good look at it you'll see how simple it is and be able to figure it out quickly.

Air brakes or juice? Tell us some more about it. What engine?

Juice Brakes......power booster unit under the truck was replaced about 2 years ago...as were brake hoses and wheel cylinders. It also has power steering.

The engine is a 350 that was rebuilt several years ago and raced in a mud runner or some kind of track truck. She's pretty cammed up and has a nice lope to it. 4 speed trans with 2 speed rear.

Beautiful truck! Based on your GVW and VIN it’d be in the C50 category. I have the original manuals and wiring diagrams with vin designations, if needed I can look it up tomorrow when I get to the shop.

THANKS!
The wiring diagram of the front end from the firewall forward would be great if you can snap a pic of that. This thing has wires all over the place, yet the fuse box under the dash is the bladed fuses not glass. Im assuming PO did some re-wiring.

Here are some pics from the manual. From the sounds of it, the original wiring was replaced.

That's the Honeys truck. 53 Chevy sitting on a 96 S-10. 350 small block Chevy 4 barrell and a 5 speed stick. The cab was from Kansas off an 8000 lb truck.

She drives that thing all over....however she just had back surgery 7 weeks ago, so I have to drive it once in a while now...… hehe...

Fun and comfortable truck to drive. Has some old patina and a little home made....We had it lettered up with her Dad's old business and clear coated...
