1970 c-10 lq4/4l80e

Hi everyone, I have just recently began my LS swap and figured I should do something with all the pictures I've taken! Currently I have the engine trans out of the donor vehicle as well as the harness depinned and fuse box / relays added. Just a few weekends ago I removed what I believe to be the original 307 sbc and a rebuilt TH350. Just finished POR15 / top coat on the frame and suspension parts and I will be repainting the firewall black soon.

Got the firewall painted. I used VHT chassis/roll bar enamel in satin black. Turned out pretty good in my opinion.

Re: 1970 c-10 lq4/4l80e
Lately I have been getting the engine ready to drop in. Previous owner stripped the the rear main cover oil pan bolt and on top of that the seal is leaking so more delays. I did get the muscle car oil pan on last night and it looks great. Also I went with the Speed Engineering LS Swap headers (short version) and had to trim the ears on the 4L80E to get them to fit. Other than the cheap gaskets/fasteners I am happy with them.

Got it set in somewhat bolted down. I used the ICT Billet motor mount plates and the 3rd set of holes. It clears everything great. Next step is trans cross member modifications!

Merged the old and new wiring the other day (easier than I thought it would be). I was able to crank her over for the first time in a while! Got the adapter and new line installed for the mechanical oil pressure gauge while the intake was off too.

Got the fuel system sorted out. I went with a 72 sending unit for the return on it to a walbro 255 and corvette filter regulator. Very simple clean routing. Engine fired for the first time in a while. Computer has been sent off so she can stay running! Also patched the core support and repainted. New radiator installed from Champion.

Well I got the computer back from Brendan at LT1swap.com - what an easy process and quick turnaround time! Plugged it all in and started on the first try! Stayed running so I got to filling the radiator.

Well, it's been forever ago since I made an update in this thread. Some things i have done:
Painted bottom side of the hood black Ordered some gauges from Intellitronix (taking forever to get here) Driven it around a lot I did get a new set of wheels/tires too, specs in next post. |

Here's the wheel/tire combo:
Black Rhino Chase 6x5.5 18x9+12 front and rear with Nitto NT555 G2 tires. Front:255 45 R18 and Rear: 295 40 R18. I have the narrower 1970 rear end so I ran a 1.5" spacer rear and 1" in the front to clear the hub. You cannot run these wheels in front without a spacer despite being 112mm bore size. Where the center cap goes on does not fit over the hub diameter on the rotor. Overall, brand new tires are amazing and so much quieter (less rubber band sound over small bumps than the previous 15's) These 295s have me worried for the drivetrain... |
Re: 1970 c-10 lq4/4l80e
I can't say that I've ever seen that wheel design, kinda cool! They really make the truck look great. I presume you say your worried for the drivetrain because you're getting more traction and straining it? How much power do you think you're putting out?

Re: 1970 c-10 lq4/4l80e
Yep wanted to do something different! And yes, still running a stock shortened driveshaft with 1310s and a 12 bolt that's probably due to be gone through. Other than headers/intake on lq4 its stock. Have the transgo hd2 shift kit in the 4l80e as well.
