Upholstery staple question.
 

I pick up a set of Fender Dust shields from PaulsGMC. Nice material and looks to be an excellent replacement for my dried-out corpse looking ones on the truck now. They came unassembled with what I think are upholstery staples. How does one go about knocking these staples over to fasten the two pieces together? I feel rather dumb asking but I'm not finding much of an answer anywhere.

I tried to get mine done properly 3 times. I never had any success as the door edge kept touching it when it passed by. So I just cleaned and re-used my original pieces the best I could.

There's a pneumatic tool used at the factory, but you'll have to do them with hand tools.

These staples are so hard, I can't even roll one over naked of material. Spent the entire day looking for tools, experimenting in the shop, searching online. I am about to give up and use a basic heavy duty paper stapler. The staples provided are not 100% original anyway. Not that I care about originality to that level anyway. I guess I'll drive over to an office store and see what they may have.

You should use stainless staples as anything else will rust away.

Here's a video of a guy using a pair of pliers to fold the staples over on a reproduction gas tank cover. I'd assume your staples are similar to the ones in the video. The section of the video that deals with the staples starts at 1:35. Looks like a pain to do with hand tools but seems doable.

Hog ring pliers might work if you have not tried yet..
