need donor metal or advice
2 Attachment(s)
Hello all.
1965 c10 stepside I am working on my stepside and the right side was rolled over into gravel. I need some advice/direction or donor pieces if anyone has a donor vehicle cab that has a good right still. I have not been able to locate aftermarket sheet that can fix this. My other option is to cut out and try to flatten as much as possible. Attachment 2006020 Attachment 2006021 Recreating the drip rails and the seam would also be tough. Any advice/direction. |
Re: need donor metal or advice
Have you ever done any metal work at this level?
You really need access to both sides to hammer and dolley It's hard to see the full extent of the damage Might be easier to find a donor cab.. |
Re: need donor metal or advice
No, not skilled at this level(though I have plenty of time and willingness to learn). The most I have done is weld plenty of patch panels. This requires curves and seams and the drip rails. I have hops that someone on this forum has a cab they've alread cut into that has a good right side.
Thanks |
Re: need donor metal or advice
Not saying it cant be fixed...but its gonna be a lot of work...a lot of work.....still, I'd look for a complete cab...
Do you have access to both sides of the damaged panels?..that roof is gonna be tricky |
Re: need donor metal or advice
the more I look at it, the more I am realizing I need a donor cab. I pulled the weather stripping off the interior door and the cab metal was just dust under the weatherstrip. So the top of the interior door needs replacing too.

courtesy vertigo correction, damn looks as bad as the left side of the bed of my 71 in which case I cut the back 1/3 off the side cause it was double skinned and went to town on it on a piece of wood at my mamas backyard all ghetto style
by the door just shape it back out using a gallon of bondo, ha ha |
Re: need donor metal or advice
I'll get some pics up but so far its coming along pretty well. I took Gregski's advise and just cut it all out and salvaged what I could, Took some time (We all have plenty of it these days) and started reshaping the metal as best as I could and then began welding them back on.
Its going to take a lot of bondo but I think it will pass. |
