70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
4 Attachment(s)
Ok, cut a deal on this very low optioned 70 GMC stepside last weekend. 6 cylinder, three on the tree, manual drums and manual steering. Radio delete and no hole for the antannae in the cowl. It has some patching done on it but has not been butchered. I am thinking shop truck for the business, but we all know how I get when someone wants one of my trucks more than I do. Maybe drop it about three in front, four in rear (already have the springs and trac bar) set of 235 75 15 radials, clean it up and drive the piss out of it. Ideas????

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Go ahead and make some plans for it and start to like it a little bit, that always makes the people seem to come out and want to look when I have something I like and want to drive a little while. When I like one it is like a buyer magnet, not always a money maker but a buyers magnet none the less. Jim

Shop Truck...Name it White Out
|
Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Love the 4 eyes!! I have a 70 myself. Does it still have the radio delete plate and if so would you want to let it go? Crazy question I know. Good looking truck, for sure name it White Out like sKnYnPpY mentioned.
ALSO one more thing I am trying to debunk this myth to see if it is true. So the legend says all 70-72 GMCs 6 cyl got coils, does yours have coils? |
Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Hey Jason. Yes, the radio delete is still there but I am not looking to sell it. I appreciate you asking. It is coil spring rear suspension. Thanks, Fred.

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Looks great. I look forward to your build.

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
That's very similar to my 70 Gmc I found back in the day that I still have now. Pretty cool! True work horse.

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
If I bought that dude I'd drop a 396 and 4 speed in it and drive the wheels off of it. I might even upgrade the brakes. ;)

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
I am not a huge GMC fan,,, no disrespect meant to my fellow brothers of other mothers,, but this one has a cool vibe. The spid has four lines, talk about a stripper..

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
I had a 71 Gmc swb step that was close to this. Originally same color blue interior and exterior was blue as well. 6 cyl 3 ott manual disc brakes manual steering radio delete but it had the 7 gauge inst panel. Dad like charcoal grey metallic so he painted it that color and i changed interior to black for him. I installed chrome bumpers front and rear and a set of stainless dog dish caps i found here on the forum. Swapped the 3.73 to a 3.08 (the 3.73 is in my 72 swb step with a 350/ 700r4.) The gmc had coils in back too. I wishe i would have talked him into painting it the stock med blue!

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Wow Fred, garage looks......different! :) Nice looking truck.
|
Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
I'm digging the "white'd out" front end on it! Never see that on a '69 - '72 because they were all chrome.

Fred, just ribbing you about the garage, it looked 10x less cluttered than mine the day I was there. I've had a head cold this last week so I haven't done much to the truck. The parts I got from you are still sitting in the seat. I started stripping paint and bought a welder so I can start on patch panels. I need to finish brake lines and get that crossmember from you before I can think about driving it. Just doing what I can as I can afford it.
|
Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
I forgot all about the crossmember. Let me see about getting that fine restoration part yanked off there for you this coming weekend.
|
Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
No hurry Fred. Thanks
|
Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Well,,, I have been dwelling on this all week. The GMC is a nice little truck, too nice to do what we were planning to do with it. I am going to fix a few minor flaws, do a little tweaking on this and that, give it a good cleaning and send it down the road. It deserves a better owner than I would be to it.

Re: 70 GMC shop truck,,, maybe.
Shop truck would be rad.

I hear what you're saying. This certainly screams GMC shop truck though http://www.customclassictrucks.com/f.../photo_01.html
Any way you do it, it certainly can't be wrong! |

If your not going to use them, would you be willing to sell the rear lowering springs and trac bar? Do you you think I could get that front crossmember this week? I could come out and and assist with the removal if your busy. Also looking for disc brake, 5 lug conversion stuff if you have anything available or any local leads I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Calvin |
