This is my dads 72 Jimmy that he got arround 16 years ago and has been sitting in the garage since. After we restored my 68 GMC step side long box for my high school graduation hes been wanting to get at it and with my help we started it today. It had a 305 small block and a 350 trans that will be uprgaded to a 496 big block and a 400 turbo. Today we put new body mounts and heavy duty leaf springs in the front axle.

Well we had a productive weekend and got the front clip on. As well as getting the doors all welded up and every thing is fiting nice. When we replaced the front leaf springs last week we found that the left bolt that holds the springs together at the axle was broke. And now we cant get the core support to fit right with the mounts in. It sits up too high. So we figure that the truck has been jumped before. So before we take it back appart we willl have to put it on the frame rac and get the frame straightend. For the people who notice the right fender is for a chevy and we are just useing it untill we get a gmc fender.

Unfortunately my dad either has tennis elbow or has a torn something. So not much progress has been made lately. We did get the new wheels and tires today that will be on the Jimmy. They are Cooper AT3's 315-75-R16. Which is like a 35-12.5-R16.

Last week we got the fender on the passenger side that we will be using. And we put the new tires and rims on it. Then we pulled the front clip and bolted the 496 big block, 350 trans and transfer case together. We put the assembly in the jimmy and found out that it didn't fit....

We started cutting the firewall this weekend and got the motor to fit. We still have to finish the firewall off but it's close. Had some other issues with the a/c compressor but we have that problem almost fixed. We will just have to get a longer belt.

Finally got some time to work on the jimmy. We got the doors fitting well and the front clip is also. We pulled the body and put it on a rotisorry and powerwashed the frame and put that on our frame rac.

I apologize for asking my question the wrong way. Did you use the truck big block frame stands or the small block frame stands?

I believe the small block frame stands. We were unaware of there being a difference. It had a 305 small block originally.

Dad got the frame all painted today. Found a broken leaf in the right rear spring. So we will go to our local spring shop and see about getting just the one leaf replaced and doing the same one on the other side.

That is one of the prettiest exhaust systems I've ever seen. This is going to be a nice truck. Will you have any problems with the under dash heater box with the firewall modifications you made? Or with the gas pedal installation?

Sorry this took so long. Been really busy. Thank you for the complament. The gas pedal will be about an inch closer. And the heater/ac box wont have any issues. We mocked it up when we were cutting so we knew how far we could go. And the center of the fire wall wasnt cut so that part is still at the factiory location.
