Convert to SWB or Keep LWB?

2 Attachment(s)
I have the short bed sides already, but have a lot of people telling me to keep it a long bed. I have another 66 SWB and like the SWB better and that is why i wanted to do this converstion, but everyone and my brother is telling me to keep it LWB.

What do you think?

My vote (for what it's worth) keep it long, especially if you already have a short one.

To me seems you answered your own question.;)

I'm long bed and have no preference when truck looks good. But eventually I think I will go swb with mine eventually.

It doesn't matter what other people think. It's your truck, and you are the one who has to look at it. If you truly like a SWB, freakin' have at 'er! You'll have lovers and haters whatever way you choose. Do what you want.

Boxers or briefs - who are you to tell me what I should wear?

Exactly.

Follow your heart.

I like LWB better, but we each have a preference. Go with your gut...flip a coin...heads LWB, tails SWB...if you are disappointed with the flip result, you have your answer.

I could not agree more with SkinnyG. Its yours, do what you want and do not worry about what others say. Listening to what others say in reference to why they say one way or another is good to do, but only if it is based on facts and not feelings, because you have your own feelings.
Me personally, i prefer short. I have a 1969 that was 100% stock when i got it, Long Bed CST, Fleetside, un-molested. It is now a shortbed LS Conversion, done to what i like and i love it. As mentioned, there are lovers of it and haters of it, but heck im used to not making everyone happy. Heck i am covered in tattoos and when i go to my church sometimes new people see me and instantly judge me for this, while others like it. So, do what makes you happy after you weight all the reasons to cut or not. Bonus in my eyes, you have the short bed sides, that is huge.
Good Luck.

If you move to an original SWB Chassis, then I would go that way, if your going to cut your frame, then I would consider that if you decide to sell down the road, your trucks value may be less or your willing buyers may be fewer because of the modified frame. Just something to think about

I love my LWB truck. Have had them both and long and low just looks good. I d agree on the frame comment. A cut frame does run some folks off. If I was going from long to short it would have to be on a short frame. I have shortened frames and we always did it bare and on the chassis fixture. That ensured it was dead on straight and correct on all the measurements before and after welding.

I also have a long and a short. I also had everything needed to make the long a short including a frame. In the end I couldn't do it. I thought it more interesting to keep them different. You know, why have two trucks the same? Every time I put an 8ft piece of lumber in that long bed and shut the tailgate, i know I did the right thing.

If I were you the first thing I would do is put safer brakes on it. Dude, a turbo LS with a single line master cylinder (and probably drum brakes)?? I know it won't make it look any better, but it needs to be done.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I do have a few things to consider because I will be putting a 12bolt posi with Wilwood disk brakes on it this winter. The front spindles will be replaced with 2'' drop spindles with Wilwood disks up front. Also have a Wilwood master cylinder with booster going on.
Also going to get the interior finished up and possibly put a digital dash in.

My vote is leave it as a long bed, especially if you already have a short bed truck. There's that extra carrying capacity that just isn't there in a short bed. I picked up some 8 foot studs and an 8 foot piece of drywall today, and I don't want to think about that stuff if I had a 6 foot bed. Still, your choice, of course.

Then again, mine's a Longhorn, so...
