Throttle cable
I hate being a pain with these questions, but this swap from a 6 to sb v8 is one problem after the next. I bought a new throttle cable because the 6 cyl cable was to long. The new one is shorter, but still to long. I also am having trouble finding a throttle cable bracket.
Could someone possibly post a photo or two of their K10 engine area showing correct bracket and cable connections? I have my engine running great, and I can move it back and forth in my driveway, but can't go any further until I get this throttle problem taken care of |
Re: Throttle cable
Are you looking for a choke cable, or an accelerator cable?
I bought a repop accelerator cable, made it into a sweeping "S" bend, lubed it up really well and hooked it up. Easy as pie. |
Re: Throttle cable
Sorry, an accelerator cable. I bought the one at LMC that says it's for a 350 4wd. Part# 32-4525. Maybe after I get a mounting bracket I might be able to get this cable working. LMC has a universal 'throttle cable bracket' 38-4708, but I think I'll explore other options before dropping $40 on somthing I'm not sure woukd even work. Still hoping for a photo or two of a correct installation :-)

Re: Throttle cable
Get on craigslist and find a parts truck. I find them all the time. In fact I'm going to get some parts off of a 72 k5 today.:metal:

Re: Throttle cable
Put a 700R4 trany in and move your engine forward 2" and your problem is solved... "LOL" That's the set-up I have, but haven't installed the cable yet, just put the peddle assembly in the other day. I do have both the long & short cables, hopefully one will work.
As Jason mentioned above, I believe the original set-up had an S curve in the cable. As for the bracket I went with a Holley bracket ! Gary |
Re: Throttle cable
Shortening the cable isn't that hard.

2 Attachment(s)
This is a Lokar cable and bracket. They make pretty much whatever you need but they are REAL proud of their stuff. I guess it depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

Re: Throttle cable
Lokar has a universal cable kit that is under $50 if I remember right. Just like making a bike brake cable.

Re: Throttle cable
I have a 66 k10 that I modded to use a cable for the throttle.
I got the parts at the local junkyard, and grabbed 2 different length cables, figuring one of them would work. The shorter cable was difficult, and almost, but not quite, would bind fromn the sharp(ish) angle I had to work with. I ended up using the longer cable, and looped it to keep everything feeling smooth. Not the most elegant solution, but it is functional, and doesn't look hillbilly at all |
Re: Throttle cable
I just put a throttle cable on my 87 V10. Two were offered one was 31 inches and the other was 28. The one that was on the truck was a 28 inch cable and it kind of wound around a bit, which I thought was odd. The new one fit the same way....I have no idea why they didn't make the cables so that they were maybe 26 inches....that would have cut out a lot of potential kinks.
If you want I can take a picture or two tomorrow. |
