Edelbrock on 68 c10
 

I am going to pull my old tired 307 this weekend to swap in a 350 with edelbrock carb. The carb is new. It doesn't appear to be set up for use with the factory throttle rod. I am trying to make sure i have everything on hand prior to swapping the new motor in. Is this what i need to make the throttle rod work? Thanks!

What year is your truck and what intake manifold do you have? You need a fuel pressure regulator set to 5.5 psi, or the Edelbrock fuel pump (1722 I think), to keep it from flooding. Edelbrocks are finicky with fuel pressure. You'll also need a heat insulating gasket to keep it from boiling fuel, like the Edelbrock 9266 (depends on your intake). Set float drop and rise to Edelbrock specs as they can also cause flooding if set wrong. The throttle rod depends on what year your truck is.

Build your own throttle linkage. I like using all-thread and heim rod ends for smooth operation and no binding.

The new motor will have an edelbrock performer eps intake. I had heard about the fuel pump issue. I did't get an edelbrock one, but i did get one that was only rated to 6psi (same as edelbrock). I like the idea of the ball joint. I will look at that closer when i get home tonight.

Oh, forgot. I also got the thick heat insulating gasket that was recommended in the instructions.

For my throttle rod I threaded the end of it and used a female heim joint. Picked that up at my local ACE hardware. Then did the same thing for my hogged out brake pushrod hole.

Sounds like you’re almost all set then. Your setup sounds similar to mine on my 72. I’m using the EPS intake, a 1406 carb, the fuel pump, and the heat gasket. Works out real well. The stock 71-72 throttle setup hooked right up to the carb with no issues. I agree with the other suggestions of using a heim joint, should work out real well. The only other thing I can think of is getting a cal kit for the carb so you can get it setup nicely.

Don't run 3' of rubber fuel line or cut and splice the original. You can get a nice metal fuel line from Summit designed to work with the Edelbrock carb and intake.

I love online reviews. Half of them say that part isn't close to fitting. Half say its perfect.

To keep it simple i just took some brake line, smashed the ends together, and drilled holes on each side of the rod for the attachment hardware. I looks great, was easy, and very cost effective.

I have 3 of the 1406 on SBC with edel. intakes on all of them 3yrs + and none of them have fuel press. issues on stock pumps. All of them ran straight out of box with very little problems that were addressed with a spring or metering rod adj. You will need some kind of linkage like you posted or 1 of the other ideas mentioned above and a gasket/ plate kit like they mentioned then install and see if you can get it dialed in unless you have money to throw at it ,then get 1 of everything :ack:

Adapting an edelbrock carb is one of the most challenging things. It usually looks like crap and finding ways to attach the return spring or the kick down or the throttle cable, nightmare.

Factory is attaching spring to front (on linkage style), but finding a spring that works with the pretty bracket... geez

On cable style, forget about having the spring under the cable as well.

What a coincidence, I just finished the swap of my 307 2bbl for a 350 and Edelbrock 4bbl in my 68. I did end up reusing the existing factory throttle rod.

Here is what I did:
For the throttle return spring, I bought a Mr. Gasket 9678 throttle return spring kit. (See Pic).
It mounted fine on the front drivers side carb stud (after a bit of trimming on the Mr Gasket mount bracket).

The return springs attach to the included Mr. Gasket swivel mount which I attached to the Edelbrock throttle bracket 'large hole' using the included hardware.

The factory throttle rod end then went into the 'smaller hole' on the carb linkage after I drilled it out slightly. (See pic.)

I have not secured that end into the Edelbrock linkage because, once everything was tightened down, I could not get it to slip out of the hole, even by putting side force on the rod. Lubed up the joints and everything is good.
