whats the best way to do this??
 

I have to change the tranny/t-case adapter in my cousins 73 3/4t it has 350/465/205 setup and someone suggested using a cherry picker but I'm not sure if the the tranny hump opening is big enough get to the t-case anyone out there done this?:confused:

I've used a cherry picker before..drop both as a unit..run picker thru doorway, jack it up til its close to roof ..run a sling down thru hump and after crossmember is unhooked just lower the whole set up..makes it nice for the install also..another suggestion is to just drop the 205 by supporting the trans. up..its not as heavy as say a np203..

I wouldn't bother pulling the hump out. Get the truck up as high as possible on jack stands. Support the tranny with a jack or jack stand. Remove the cross member. Remove the driveshafts. Remove the t-case - use a floor jack, or if you can get two people under the truck just muscle it down. Remove the adapter. Reverse to re-install.

so the only way to use a picker would be to drop both tranny and case? cos I don't wanna mess with the tranny I guess the 2 of us will just muscle it out

Are you sure that it has a 205? I thought that the 203 was used in the '73s. Anyway, I just pulled the tranny and 203 out of my truck, rebuilt the tranny and then put it all back in. I used a transmission adapter for a floor jack to drop them out. I pulled the transfer case first, and man that thing was heavy! The tranny was easy compaired to the t-case. I wouldn't try to pull them both at once, it is way too heavy! You should be able to rent a tranny jack from the local rent-a-tool place or they sell some at JCWhittney or HarborFreightTools.
