VIN for C10 but truck is K10

I have a 1984 K10 4x4 (white one in profile). I looked at the title the other day and it is titled as a C-10 so I went online an tried to decode the VIN number and it shows as a C-10 also. MY first thought is that someone before me swapped body off a C10 onto a 4x4 chassis but is there any other things that you guys have seen? Is there something I can check to verify? Thanks

The top of the frame on the passenger side should have a partial VIN stamped into it.

Not uncommon in our area to change cabs because of rust, get a cab from an area of the country that does not use salt on the roads. I know in Michigan, there is a process for putting the original VIN plate on replacement cab/body. It needs to be done and inspected by the State Police. Because of that, a lot of guys will buy a cab/body with a title and leave the VIN how it came on the body.

That stuff varies by state.
IIRC NH issues what they call a composite VIN... or they did 25 years ago when I did it the last time.

Not that it matters, but out of curiosity - what is the VIN on your SPID?

you have two options... keep quiet and forget it or open up a can or worms and if for some reason the chassis comes back as a stolen truck you could face alot of legal questions.. if in fact your SPID and your VIN are the same, id just pretend i was ignorant to it all and not worry.. Ive never found a VIN on the chassis, but the only time i looked my trucks were older before this change happened

The vin on the glove box sticker matches the vin on the dash. I crawled over every inch of the truck and I cannot find a number on the frame or any damage to anything. From the search online it looks like I would have to start removing things to see the top of frame.

Wouldn't a C10 cab have a lower hump in the floor? In any event your truck will always be an 84 K10 no matter what cab you put on it. Forging a VIN is generally frowned upon.

Last 6 numbers of vin are usually on top of frame rail behind cab.

Column shifted C10's have the low floor (automatic trans, or three on the tree).

Floor shifted C10's get the high hump (M20 trans, MY6 trans).

Good tip to know for a 4x4 cab swap. I didn't realize that.
