69 crew duramax build

I know all of this has been done before but I enjoy looking at everyone else's projects and thought I would contribute mine as we go along. We have just barely started so be patient lol

I bought a nice running driving 69 3/4 ton suburban about a month ago. I also bought a 2006 crew cab long bed 4wd duramax. I also bought a couple of truck cabs. Everyone see where this is headed ( other than heading toward empty bank account...)

Well today my builder and I (mainly him) got one of the cabs all stripped down and cut In half. He then started drilling spot welds and peeling off the skin needed to build the back wall of cab. Tomorrow I will start stripping the suburban so he can cut it in half also.

Can anyone tell me how the roof air comes out? Full length roof air, not just at back. It's working and I really want to keep it intact to sell or use in another project later.

Couple of pictures where we are starting and at currently.

I made some more progress after church today. Suburban is no longer drivable. Picture of duramax donor also.

That Duramax donor looks really nice, mine wasn't as pretty. Funny that most of the burbs are that olive green. Are you using the frame from the 2006?

Re: 69 crew duramax build

Yes 06 frame

I'm digging it already even though I'm a cummins man. Looking forward to the build.

This is going to be one sweet build. :metal: Sub'd for sure. Are you going to be using a standalone harness or try to integrate the 06 harness?

ctdarnell 10-04-2015 10:29 PM

Re: 69 crew duramax build

Sending off the factory harness to be re-worked as a stand alone. The company will also program ecm to "free up" the engine. This will allow me to use the Allison transmission, 06 4wd buttons, Dakota digital cluster, vintage air ac, factory steering column. At least those are my current plans

Very cool build you got going here. I daily drive a 2006 Duramax. Have since new. Love it. I would love to one day do one similar. I will be following along.

Re: 69 crew duramax build

would be cool to take that back half of the suburban and a truck cab and make like 2 door Tahoe. I realize its like a blazer...but it would look Different...and you could even make it like a 2 door panel...would be sweet!

But anyways i cant wait to see this project!!

More progress. Starting to take shape now. Roof line is getting close just a little more tweaking. Then 4th door begins.

Great project, and nice fast work so far! I agree with Trevor, that is a really nice donor truck!

Re: 69 crew duramax build

Thanks for the comments guys. I kinda stumbled onto the donor and jumped on it for the price. It was exactly what I was looking for. Decent miles 125k, 4wd and lbz engine. Still driving it right now until cab is done and ready to swap.
