Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
 

My love of 67-72s began, well, when I first saw the '67. But, it only grew from there. I've had at least one since '73. As the '80s rolled on nostalgia played into it making my reasons for loving them multi-faceted. I was becoming a teen in '67 and by '72 I was a well seasoned driver at 17 :rolleyes:. I think the music I/we listened to in that time was the best era of musical creation. If I picked a "best" year it would be 1970. More great albums came out of this year, with many groups putting out more than one. It was the time at the foot of the beginn ing of record companies really catching on and commercializing what would come to be known as "rock". Back then it was just real musicians expressing themselves through exploring and creating... and the recording industry couldn't help nut notice. These musicians didn't know if they's make a lot of money or not. They just wanted to play and figured the recording expense would be covered and hopefully some more. Then came the industry basically creating groups and segments of rock.

Another reason I became so about 67-72 is Drag racing and NASCAR were at their pinnacle... from my standpoint. The money came along to change all that, too. although it took the '70s decade to get to where my head started turning away from it (for the most part).

Anyway, I'll start with a group many may not know of, or have forgotten. Not among my favorites, but they represent the era well... and not so hard to look at, either.

Tim, clicked on your post and first thing I saw was the Black Oak Arkansas CD. Seen Black Oak in concert years ago and have always liked their sound. The CD you posted is VERY hard to come by, have it on LP album and just recently was able to find it on line.

You're welcome. That has to be their "finest" song. It shows their talent, writing and playing, in a more subdued gentle acoustic way
So much great music never made it to CD. I have many LPs that were never on CD. I only remember Black Oak Arkansas and Fanny from this era. Very few times have I heard their music on the radio past this era.
Paul, great great song of that time (and still). The Byrds and all the music from artists that both flowed into that group as well as radiated from it. They were 'the' folk rock' group and country rock came out of the Byrds as well. The great American band at a time when the Brits had a hold on the American youth. This era is when American music rose to the top.
Thanks, Pritch. Maybe you found it posted by someone else. I only glanced through while editing. I wanted that particular one for being a live studio cut.

Motown was still happening and it tried to change with the time. Kinda worked but nothing like what it was at the beginning of the era

Ok, just a touch early being '66. I mainly didn't want to go into '73 because by then the record industry had taken hold and also many groups had split into solos, other groups, and generally seemed to be flowing rather than leading the 'edge'. Not that great music doesn't still live on to this day. But I just wanted to take a great Temptations song from early and one from later

Buffalo Springfield was one of the earlest favorites of mine. Steven Stills did tons toward setting the pace for what was to come bringing us out of the top 40 early-mid '60s

Yeah buddy! Creedence Clearwater Revival was an major iconic group of this era. I have so much music in my head to bring to this thread. I am a poet and I don't know it :confused:. Creedence is one. I came up with the name for my construction company from multiple things in my life up to '82 when I started it, and CCR was one for sure

It's a thread for the era 67-72 trucks come from, meaning "late '60s- early '70s". I also posted music from '66. I bought a next to new '72 big block shortbed off the OK Used Car lot at Sport Chevrolet in '73, so I associate the early '70s as far as they can be stretched into the mid-70s. It was a great time that I still wish never ended :cool:

I agree,those were the best years for "our" music!
My dad wasn't too happy with our choices though!(he liked country!).
He bout run us out of the house when we played "Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog".
Finally,we were sent to the shed in the backyard,where we really made some noise!

That song reminds me of the long bus ride we used to have to high school. The driver played the radio for us. It was Jeremiah was a bullfrog, Rockin' Robin, The Carpenters, and Grand Funk Railroad
We're all entitled to our opinion. I liked their first two albums when they came out because I came up with my father playing the early blues. They became popular and that turned me away from them. But as time went by it was undeniable why they were so popular. Aside from any over analyzation, they just made great music. Just realize, I haven't necessarily played my favorites. Just trying to play what represented the times as well as music that was only heard then. Nostalgia can come from anything that represents the time, even Engelbert Humperdink :lol:. I've always been big on the Grateful Dead and super big on Jimi Hendrix

Stole is a debatable way of seeing it. If anyone is to blame for that it would be the record companies who wrote the rights of the original artists out of the original music and allowed the new artists to remake the songs for the sake of great profits going in their pockets than the performers. All music comes in some way from what came before. It's only natural for what we absorb to come through in our own creations. And many groups covered prior songs, such as Fannie in my original post. Hendrix, Cream, Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead... all took old songs and made them their own. My preference in general with music is in singer/songwriters who create and perform their own music... and often we know their songs by being played by more popular artists promoted by the radio station/recording industry complex
Again, a matter of opinion which we all are entitled to. Music is all about preference and not a thing to be argued or debated. Apples taste better than oranges, right? :cool: The way "I" see it is Led Zeppelin played many prior recorded music differently. They made it their own creation. Many of such songs by them and others were listened to without people even realizing they had already heard that song by someone else. But mostly the case was the original music was from a time way before their own, and a style they were not necessarily fond of or just had never heard. Many early blues rock fans (who didn't even know it was the blues) later became some of the biggest fans of the roots of most all of American music, the blues.

Of course, the first full album I ever bought was by the actual Fab Four. Truth is, I snuck my older sister's brand new copy of Abbey Road to a dance and it got scratched and I had to replace it:metal:

But I was always all over the place. With 3 older sisters, I got everything from the 50's on. And dad with his country and mom with her big band and showtunes, I got the full range. Top 40 was huge, Motown. I still listen to a lot of old 60's soul. Too many to list right now, for sure.

In '72, I was listening to whatever my folks were listening to Didn't have much of a choice....I was 3 and ITunes hadn't been invented yet:lol:.

I do fondly remember really liking The Monkeys as their songs were pretty upbeat compared to whatever my folks were listening to. I think we drove them absolutely crazy singing those songs over and over. :lol:
