Or you could mount it behind your factory bumper. ;)

Re: Winch Bumper for my 72

All I can say is I bought a new snow plow designed for an`84 GM truck and it fit.Because of the "V" shape of our fronts and the flat front of the 73-87s it needed moved forward enough to where I used the front hole on the frame for the rear hole on the mount. Then, drilled a hole in each side for the second mounting bolt.
I believe a`73-up winch bumper would work the same. You may not have to move forward and just cut the "V" in the plate on top. That would depend on the winch clearance and where the ends hit in relation to the fenders.Road Armor had a bumper I wanted that wasn`t too bulky and jazzed-up that I considered using.I don`t know if they still make it,though. The ones I see for the late-models look too chopped up and bulky for me.

Found by doing a search under "72 winch bumper"
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...earchid=755325

Why would you install one only for looks? Just curious...

So you know, a bumper like in the pics really screws the pooch for approach angle but if it's "for looks" why not.

that old bumper looked like a battleship on the front of that truck . I like the way you have the winch hidden under the stock front bumper

Heh, I spent allot of time on that "Battleship Bumper"... when I made it and now going onto my tow rig where it will sport a 16K Superwinch :p

You did and it showed, took alot of bashing and it held up pretty good too.
Should work good on a tow rig.

Didn't work so well on a trail ride, killed the approach angle.

Heh, straightening it was not so easy... chained it down then heated it.

:)

Burning bed liner is not a pleasant smell. Now I get to figure out how to attach it to the new frame.

This may be a little more bumper than what you want. The winch is on a reciever hitch and I can put it on the back bumper also. The grill guard is a must in ranch country.

Kurt,I don`t have a mandrel bender.:D

Is that how you bent that?It sure looks like it.It`s a shame to cover that work.

Purpose built and used for the purpose is always cool.

Actually being it was such a small bend, I took it up to a friends shop and did it on his exhaust bender. :sexy:

I wondered about that.I can access a tubing bender. It loooks like a mandrel bend from here.

Here's a pic of mine. I bought the truck from a fire dept with the winch and bumper already on the truck. I had an old ford brush guard laying around the shop and it fit perfect so I added it on. If you need more pics let me know. Randy

A Mandrel is a large ape that bends pipe:lol:.
Mandrel bender. It`s an expensive machine that grabs the stock and stretches/shrinks as it bends to keep a costant dimension.

I am adding some tube to the "Battleship Bumper".

Mostly to fend off Moose. Remember that Kurt? K20 on the trailer, 40MPH in the Dodge and a Moose flying at the passenger side in Maine? I think you kissed him :).

Yes, I want to protect the C/K 30 from that :metal:

I have a JD2 model 3 bender. They're inexpensive but work well. You can buy one for the price of a winch bumper and make one out out of tube.

Re: Winch Bumper for my 72

I think I misunderstood the mandrel bend question now that I read it again. What makes a mandrel bend a mandrel bend is that it doesn`t kink, wrinkle,or crush down like all other forms of bends. It maintains a constant dimension through the bend.
But seriously,a mandrel "is" a big baboon-like ape that prolly could bent a pipe.:D
