wholesale lot find
2 Attachment(s)
Sunday night my wife and I were cruzin the back of the lot a our local FORD dealer and ran across this burb in the wholesale corral, it was scheduled to go the junk auction this Week. 1986, C20, 96,000 miles, 454, auto, 14 bolt posi, buckets, console, Z barted when new, not much rust, just tired old burb. $3,000 on the window, I bought it yesterday for $2K, ran great on the way home. I'll use it for parts to get my 85 K30 further along. Here's a picture of the beast.

Re: wholesale lot find
The glove box tag read 4:10 trac lok, but when I jacked up the rear end and spun the tires, they went opposite directions, guessing the clutch's are bad or the rear was replaced?

Re: wholesale lot find
It's an open diff till rear wheel speed difference reaches 120 rpm, then it will engage. Easiest way to tell is to do a burn out on pavement. 2 marks means it works.

Re: wholesale lot find
trucks got a GOV - LOC unit .
unless military truck only they got a full detroit locker . the blazer also got the GOV - LOC unit . blazer also only open front . some pickups could have got the trac-lok unit that dana offered . its a light duty posi not as beefy as the POWER-LOK posi tho . i my self have tried 3 options in the rear of 1 specific truck with the same tire combo . open / gov-loc / detroit locker. i live in the snow belt of upstate ny / pa area . i prefer the gov-loc unit for a 14ff rear my self . hard core off road its might be a detroit but if i was doing all the work i would just toss in a ARB air locker get the best of both on-road and off-road traction . |
Re: wholesale lot find
LMK if you decide to sell this thing, I've been looking for one of these.

[QUOTE=71suburban/70CST;8418660]LMK if you decide to sell this thing, I've been looking for one of these. I'm still undecided if I should add it to my K30 or not, but I plan to start parting the burb at the end of the month. It'd be expensive to ship.

Re: wholesale lot find
Just in case you're thinking of swaping rear ends. There suburban never got a full floating rear end only semi floating.

Here's what I have, I tested it out today in the dirt, it leaves 2 marks every time.

Re: wholesale lot find
Well I learned something new. Sounds like the gov lock is still there. Are the 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive axles the same width? That would be the next question.

Re: wholesale lot find
As far as I know they are, I've sold quite a few 73 - 87 rear diffs from 2 and 4 wheel drive pickups, no buyer ever measured or mentioned a difference. I'll measure this weekend and post results.

2wd and 4wd same width . just shock mounts flip flopped and if truck axle 3/4 is the same as 1/2 ton on spring spacing and 1ton the leafs are sucked in a little so spring pads would need to be moved if swapping to a 1/2 or 3/4 ton frame. |
