Rarest truck
What is the rarest 67-72 ? I think I see 9 ft stepside the least
|
Re: Rarest truck
Keeping in mind rare doesn't mean valuable, and looking at 1972 only, the C-30 Stepside with 1542 units produced would be the rarest.
Technically the C-30 bare chassis and cowl, with only 127 made, would be more rare. By comparison they made 273,249 stepside C10 pickups that year. |
Re: Rarest truck
A well optioned one ton is pretty rare.

Re: Rarest truck
I almost bought a short stepper copo truck from Hanover nuclear facility. Too rusty and likely too 'hot'. Still wish I had grabbed it. I didn't think they let anything out of there.

Re: Rarest truck
Davepl is right concerning a by the book numbers rarity. I'm sure there were some combinations that were even more rare, but since there are no records kept for these trucks, it's all speculation and opinion.
As an example, A plane jane yellow 69 6 cyl long bed with only 3 pt belts ordered, could be a 1 of 1, just as a fully loaded Cheyenne Super in a special color with every single option box checked off. The only fact we have, is that we will never know. |

Re: Rarest truck
They made 8 1967 3/4 ton 4wd panels in 1967. That's a rare bird!
|
Re: Rarest truck
There is model production number rare and there's options combined with model rare. The latter are what I enjoy looking for. Doesn't have to mean fancy either.
|
Re: Rarest truck
The option combination rarity thing is always weird - it's one thing if you're talking about desirable options added together, like a '69 Camaro fully optioned and then you add flip down rear seat, traction dispenser and shoulder belts.
But to take a car that's some gosh-awful color and has a goofy option package, it's easy to make a one-of-one car, it's just rarely a good thing. I was looking through the 2015 Corvette production stats and there's a one-of-one car that's got something like yellow stripes on a red car... makes it a rare car, but is it a good thing? |
Re: Rarest truck
The rarest truck to me is MINE!! because there is no identical twin to mine, and no other truck on here has had me put my blood, sweat, and tears into it,
|
Re: Rarest truck
Imo it would be any option or non optioned truck, factory original in spectacular condition, with little to no miles. Joes Junk is a fine example..

Re: Rarest truck
Totally agree with the statement rare doesn't necessarily mean valuable. I read about 2 of 2 full size Chevy 4 doors (probably Biscayne's) with 4 cylinder engines. They were built for taxi use, but even the taxi companies wouldn't buy such an under powered car. Rare, yes. Valuable? A resounding NO!

Re: Rarest truck
Setting options aside and just talking about year and model, 4,935 for a 69k5 is a small production number, especially if you factor in how many are probably left them being a 4x4..

This one is pretty rare. The special paint was Chevelle Black Cherry.
Currently under construction... |
Re: Rarest truck
This comes up from time to time. The 4X4 Panels in 67 were the rarest production number wise. Keep in mind also that there are probably almost as many shortbeds running around as were ever built since so many have been shortened.
I think the best way I have ever heard it put was right here on the BB.I don't remember who posted this but here's how they put it. "There's a difference between rare and desirable, for instance, It's rare that I crap my pants but it's never desirable." |
Re: Rarest truck
not truck related but a customer in my shop today has a 1 of 5 built 1980 corvette 4 door. i had never heard of a 4 door vette.
on a truck related note-Bill at vintage chevy truck here in california has a 68 K10 panel that i found in a wrecking yard many years ago, if i remember correctly 47 were produced. i'd say rare AND desirable, AND it had the factory tow hook option---even more rare AND desirable:lol: |
Re: Rarest truck
68 Longhorns are pretty rare. I am not sure of production numbers.

We're talking trucks, not Vettes or muscle cars. Trucks had way more variables involved meaning way more configurations combined with way more options. An example: '71 K/10 SWB Fleetside "Custom" Red Orange Black bucket seats Shoulder belts 350/4spd Posi front & rear Tilt Tach AM/FM Air HD radiator Aux. battery 10.00 x 16.5 tires (meant 8.25" wheels) Tow hooks I doubt there were any two trucks ever built just like that |
Re: Rarest truck
Don't forget the ultra rare factory "400" engine in these trucks!
