Spare Tire Carriers

So I have my eye on a factory style spare tire carrier that goes behind the rear seat. And the one I am looking at has a few minor differences from the tire carriers I’ve seen on this board. The owner claims they make two different types of spare tire carriers but I can’t seem to find any matching this type. What do you guys think? It looks right to me but I don’t see a slot for the hub bolt and the other examples I have seen have a pressed in raised area at the slot and this one is flat all the way down. I also see an extra hole on the base legs.

Not certain but I think that some GM vans used a spare tire mount very similar to first gen k5s. Did second gen k5s use a similar mount as well?

Square body’s use a round tubing mount over the right rear. At least the ones I’ve seen

Pretty sure the early square body ones, maybe the full removable top trucks used a similar mount, which may be what this is.

The truck I posted is a copy I believe of the Blazer in Jaws. This is a screen shot. I don't think they would put a tire in a truck in a movie just because. ;)

Here's mine. The legs look similar but the slit in the middle of yours looks completely different. I've never seen one like that before.

Yes the sportsman van's used the same style spare mount and the 73-75 full top k5.

Thanks

Bringing back an old thread to see if this was ever figured out. Looking at one identical to the one the OP was looking at. Can anyone confirm if this is from something other than a 69-72 Blazer? It doesn't look like you could adjust to a bigger or smaller tire with the fixed bolt location.

too much stuff 03-19-2019 08:54 PM

The suburbans had a well on the pass side to hold a spare tire.

I bought one like the top one from a forum member. My guess is it is out of a van or newer blazer. It works fine with my stock spare and the only difference I see is that the bolt does not have the slot adjustment.

If I remember correctly from my 71 Blazer, you might have difficulty trying to fit a 31" tire with the inside rack in the original position.
