I went with the canister style of Sniper coil so I could mount it in the stock location.

Hey Pat,
Do these hyper spark coils work with non-mechanical Tachs? I've heard the PerTronix Ignitor III [a multi-sparking type] won't work with electronic Tachs.

I'm not sure. My OE style reproduction tach is connected to a signal that is generated by the Sniper TBI unit. The only thing I'm aware of that makes this coil different from a stock coil is that it can be connected to full 12V without the need for a ballast resistor or a resistive ignition wire.

On All High Energy Ignitions: GM HEI, PerTronix, [etc,?], the full 12 VDC is required. I disconnected and taped off the 20 Yellow wire that comes from the Iconel resistor wire that's sheathed in a white/purple/orange asbestos cover exiting the Bulkhead Connector. A separate wire from the Ign Unfused tap in the fuse block feeds my HEIs.
That's not the issue...
My buddy Dennis put a P/III on the 427 in his '72 F250. His Tach went screwy. The PerTronix tech rep on the phone told him to get a P/II if he really wanted a Tach.

The ballast is there to protect the points not the coil. Do away with the points do away with the ballast.

Ballast Resistor is redundant with the GM OEM Resistor wire. Neither are to be used with any electronic ignition.
