Project shop truck
4 Attachment(s)
Here is an old school shop truck project that I am helping my son with. Here is what we started with. Added a set of rallys, fixed the brakes and lowered it some and went cruising with the 250 3spd. Lil man got tired of the 6 and wanted to swap to a V8 so I gave him one and let him go with detailing and getting it ready to drop in. Here is what he started with, he added some new parts and finished it up pretty nice.

Re: Project shop truck
Cool project! My 12 year old son and I just started on his 70 swb step.

Re: Project shop truck
Kool, it sure is nice when they take interest in doing a project instead of video games and worse things they could get into.

Re: Project shop truck
I truly am jealous. My dad never taught me thing mechanical. I am forced to use haynes manuals and clogging internet forums for help.
Cool project. When he's done with his truck send him to eastern PA to help with mine. |
Re: Project shop truck
Enigine in , muncie m 21 in, drive shaft shortened, all ready to go, fired it up and it ran sweet BUT... that quickly turned bad. Started to develop a miss and smoke. Started to look into it and found a few issues, water in oil, some copper shavings in oil found after taking valve cover off. Pulled it back out to tear it down and found a flat lobe on cam and a mess in side engine. Not sure what happened to it, was a 305 HO I had in an S10 blazer had been sitting for a few years before we put it in. Will dig into it further to find what happened...

Re: Project shop truck
update pictures?

Re: Project shop truck
Been awhile but heres an update. The lil 305ho ate itself not sure what happened suspect a pad intake gasket. Filled crank case full of water. Pulled it out and lil man and I tore it down to find alot of bearing material in the oil pan and one flat cam lobe, needless to say lil man was not happy.
Round 2, Had to put a smile back on his face so I gave him a steel crank 4 bolt main 355 we put in a comp cam xe268 cam and it will be ready to rip up some streeets once this terrible white crap is gone from the ground. |

Re: Project shop truck
Yes I did takes some work but results are well worth it. I have some pics of it as I did it I can send you. My advice..and what I'll do on the next one is do the welding with in bolted on thats the one thing I didnt do and fitting it was a pain afterwards but still fits well.

Thnx, Ya I am sure he will, will come in handy as a parts chaser. Looking for and RX-7 for him, teach him how to do an engine swap with an ls motor. Something different the the S10 swaps we have done.
