So long as the machine work and balance job is good I dont see a problem. They used decent parts for the build. Nothing jumps out that would make me nervous. I would rather see a roller cam but thats nothing that cant be changed later. I assume they already did the cam break in if they did a dyno run. If they did not do break-in it is paramount for you to do it properly or a cam swap will be in your very near future. theres a lot of good info on here already about which oils to use.

I was hoping you would read that cableguy . Yeah I wanted a roller cam but i thought i would try this setup until i can save up for the full roller cam . What do you think the street charcteristics of this motor will be? Im planning on driving the hot rod power tour this year - 700r4 3:42 gears and a 2800 stall Thanks for the info

It shouldnt be too bad.just by glancing at the specs i would say your gonna make nice power between 2500-6500 give or take. That cam in a 350 would probably peak out around 6700 and start making power around 3000. That cam is fairly lumpy but being a 383 it will help a bit with that. your in the right neighborhood on converter. I would go with a 3.73 gear if it was me but the 3.42 gear will work just fine. the 383 and low first gear of the 700r4 will make up for it coming off the line. I hope you got a good torque converter and a stout 700r4. If you get too spirited with the throttle in that thing your gonna shred that 700r4.

Haha - Yea - The 700r4 has been rebuilt but not rated for this power . Im sure i will find all the weak points in my set up -I have a 3.73 rear end but its a single leg . I only go to the drag strip(1000' in AR) a couple of times a year so Im just going leave the 3.42's in until i get back from the power tour . I can't wait to hear it run .Thanks Cableguy0 :metal:

You're basically betting that it's a decent product Since it's been run, a dyno sheet would be good as would an oil analysis...warranty? You did see that it may be .060 over? This will NOT last in a performance engine. Also they note "full race clearancing" - to me, this means really loose clearances...which is not great. I thought this was interesting too : gm pink forged steel rods 199.00

...since they were discontinued in 1978 :/

IMHO, the numbers don't add up, but you have to decide for yourself.

I was looking at arracings engines earlier, the lack of a warranty scared me off. I don't look for a 7/70, but at least promise me it'll make it home!

I was looking to build a 383, and something about their prices concern me also. A friend at work turned me on to a guy in Culpeper that is building a 383 for me for around 3500, and he's letting me have the parts at his cost.

Just my thoughts. . .

Yeah but there are still new pink rods floating around granted they have been sitting for 30 years. Actually last time I was at the machine shop I glanced through an elgine book they had them. For the parts invested it seems like a great deal I "m just always cautious of things on ebay.

Re: 383 on Ebay - Anybody like this setup?

There are damn few of these rods "sitting around", and they're no longer available new, period. If you find a set, let me know - because I can easily get $800+ set for 'em from the restoration guys. :)

GMPP replaced them with the PM LT1/LT4 rods as the new "pink" rods.

This guy has sold a helluva lot of engines since 1999 and thought i would give it a shot ? I was going to spend 6k to build a very similar motor (except full roller ) . Ill be letting you guys know how it does ,if i can ever get a few days off work to put it in! - thanks for the comments -curt:uhmk:
