Are these useful or should they end up in the garbage?
 

Not looking to sell these, just curious if they are good or should end up in the garbage.

These are extra fuel tanks that mount where the rocker boxes should be. The PO cut the boxes out to put these in. When I got it the whole fuel system was shot, so I pulled these to clean up everything. As far as I can tell, these each hold 15 gallons. These had a fuel cap in front of each rear tire.

I like the idea of having the additional fuel storage, but these require cutting the rocker boxes. So, do these belong on someone's truck or in the garbage?

Oh, I dunno, in combination with a NWMP, Aero or Hickey tank (which they look really similar to) rear tank conversion it could be something pretty cool for a short bed, a long bed or maybe even a Suburban. Do they belong on a Blazer in lieu of rocker boxes, uh, no that's probably a bad plan.

I wasn't sure if they could go into a truck or something with minimal modifications. As far as blazers go, these are garbage, but for trucks or suburbans?

There's ongoing debate about the need to remove the tank from the cab on these trucks (no, it's not necessary), but putting tanks on each side of the frame rail directly under the cab? That's kind of like walking around in a thunderstorm with a 10 ft metal pole in your hands.

He said the filler is in the rear wheel well. So I am guessing that would put the tanks behind the cab on a long box. I would see if a pickup or suburban guy wants them.

Agreed, I don't think these tanks are intended to be used on a Blazer, not intended to be under the cab, and I don't think they were supposed to fill in the wells. This is just how it happened to work out when adapting them to a Blazer. The reason a lot of guys move the tank from the cab to the rear is to gain more space in the cab. Sorry to say but if a main concern is safety these trucks are not the best choice, they do not have reinforced doors, or airbags or crumple zones, hell they didn't even come standard with shoulder belts. I don't think a heavy thickwall outboard saddle tank is any more dangerous than the cab mounted tank or any of a number of other lacking safety features.

I always take a second look at the part before scraping. I had reminance of the steps identified in the picture but like a dummy I butchered them even further and scraped them then found this item on line after the fact showing the side step with instructions right out of GM catalog Attachment 1317734
