Hey guys, been on the forum for a little while now and realized there might be some people who wanna see what i have going on. I'm currently collecting all the parts to mate a 1984 Chevrolet CCLB with a Recon 1989 n/i Cummins 12v currently in a 1989 D350 Dually.

The 84 Crew Cab currently has a 7.4l 454 with a High Rise Intake, Edelbrock 750 Carb, HEI Distributor, Super Conductor Wires with a 3" Suspension Lift.

My plans for the truck include a ORD/SuperLift 10" Suspension Lift Kit with a ORD FUSH and DIY4x B-52 kit for the front Leaf/4x4 Conversion. Fuel Cleavers all around 38" rubber with Dodge Dana 60 up front opting to stay with the 14 Bolt FF in the rear. Under the hood is going to be pretty basic with the VE Pump, HX35 Single or if budget and real estate permits HX35/HT3B Compounds. Marine 370's if i stay single not sure what i would run with Compounds.4K GSK, Fuel Pin Mod, 60lb Valve Springs, Head Studs, Main studs. 2nd Gen Adapter plate with NV4500 W/Southbend and 241 Transfer case. For ease of install I'm going with the Cummins Diesel Repower Crossmember and Mounts.

I'm currently looking at a package deal right now for the NV4500, Adapter plate and a couple goodies, ill post the prices below in CAD let me know what you think! If its too much or reasonably priced. Tranny and Transfer case and d60 are coming out a truck with 350,000km. I think the tranny and 241 are a little high but still well below what i sat aside for them.

Dana 60 Front $350
HX35 $350
Adapter Plate $150
241 Transfer Case $800 Linkage extra 40$
NV4500 with Bellhousing $1700
Intercooler and Intake 150$

Anyways guys, heres some pics! Ill be sure to keep you updated. Feel free to chime in as well if you have recommendations/Words of advice

That's a clean looking '84. I'm betting those pics aren't current conditions in Yellowknife? On your suspension choice, might take a look at some custom springs (ORD, Alcan, Deaver) vs. a 52" swap with that heavy motor.

I know nothing about dodge front ends, but with any used piece, that could be a great deal depending on how fresh it is, if the gears match your 14 bolt, if it's clapped out and needs a rebuild hub to hub. What are you going to use the rig for?

Hey, been lucky enough to keep working as more company's are handing out layoffs in my area so updates have been a little scarce. Anyways I just picked up an NV 4500, 2nd Gen Adapter plate and a 2nd gen intercooler and rad from a guy out of Calgary (no photos yet, picking them up in a couple weeks)

Next on the list is to pull the Cummins from the 89 and get it out for a rebuild, head studs and valve springs along with picking up a front diff, lift kit, transfer case and clutch kit.

One thing I'm starting to realize as time goes on is how difficult the 4x4 conversion has the potential to be if not done properly. I see when guys put lifts above 6" it usually off centres the axle requiring spring hangers/shackle mounts to be moved. I have more research to do but does anyone have a method or process to help with drilling the holes for the spring/shackle hangers? What i mean is, if i setup the holes with no load everything will look good until load is applied. Is there a way to test how much sag the engine will put on the springs to drill my holes where they need to be? Again this is the first time ill be attempting something of this nature so bare with me, any info will help.

@MTCK haha, definitely not the current conditions in Yellowknife, The top two were taken in Lloydminster and the bottom ones when they arrived in Grande Prarie, AB. I haven't dug any further into the Lift yet as I've been busy with work but there is a user on here I'm having trouble finding again who is the motivation for the truck i am building. Here is his truck.

I'll do my best do find his profile again, He had a lot of insight and seems very knowledagble on this topic and in general with these Chevys as he has multiple done up with the Cummins.

Sorry for the jumbled up post, I'll try and get more photos up as i accumulate more parts and begin to pull the Cummins!

Since you are going that much lift, have you considered a link suspension with coil overs or even air bags? That would give you the ability to adjust the ride height and spring rate. Eventually, read in the next five or so years, mine will be linked front and rear with air bags. I'm building a 4wd as well and am thinking bags for comfort and load handling.

Sounds like a match made in heaven!

Gotta give credit where it's do, the Cummins motors are truly fantastic; dare I say, they are the LSx of diesel motors.

I've seen these put into so many different vehicles, it's unbelievable.

I may have missed it while reading, but did you ever pick up that NV4500 and transfer case? Or have you decided to run something else?

Re: 1984 C30 CCLB Cummins 12v

I picked up a Dodge NV4500 and an early dodge NP205 passenger drop that bolts right up. For the front Dana 60 I actually picked up a full 1986 4x4 CCLB Chevy. I'll post more pics and details soon!

I've tried desktops and laptops, I get the error message "missing security token" or the window becomes un-responsive.

Alright guys heres some long overdue updates, will be posting far more frequently from now on. Without reading what I have above here is where I am. The Black 84 Crew Cab is full of hidden bondo and rust. It essentially would need panels all the way around. This is how it currently sits. Attachment 1796964
This Blue cab is an 86 Automatic, non-AC. Very little body work is needed, a couple small dents and the Drivers inner rocker will need to be done. Overall I believe to be a better base. I plan on using the vintage air kit for AC Conversion and swapping columns/hydraulic pedal assembly for the manual conversion. My question for you guys is, Does the AC dash swap over? and is there anything I may be overlooking. I understand there will be my far share of fabricating, But overall I believe to be a better route than Replacing every panel on my black 84 cab. Look forward to hearing some responses.
