1965 suburban trans
Is there a easy way of removing the bottom 3/4" bolts from the trans. I can't get a socket into the space between the lower trans bolt and the pressure plate.I also tried a box end wrench with no luck. It looks like the trans cross member is non removable as well. Will I have to remove the trans and bell-housing as a unit? My suburban is a stock V8 with the SM- 4 speed trans with no modifications. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Re: 1965 suburban trans
It's been a long time since I have removed a SM420, but when I have I did not have any trouble removing the lower bolts. I just don't remember what I used.
I would think that a ratchet and short socket should fit? Have you tried an offset box end wrench? |
Re: 1965 suburban trans
I tried a short socket, but the back of the ratchet hit the pressure plate. I will give it a try with a offset box end. I was hoping to pull the engine and trans as a unit but the top of the trans won't clear the inner firewall. The cross member is riveted in place so I can't drop it far enough down. Thanks

Re: 1965 suburban trans
im thinking the 2 lower bolts are inside the bellhousing ?pull the lower inspection plate-might have to scrap some grease or junk out ?but try it

Re: 1965 suburban trans
Thanks I have the trans out, there are two 3/4 bolts that go in from the bell-housing side. I removed them with a 3/4 off set box end. One of them had a mangled head on it lots of fun. Thanks Captainfab
