Speedometer died.

The speedometer in my 91 S10 Blazer quit working and I have done some troubleshooting and I have some questions that I can't seem to get answers to.
First is the needle on the speedometer supposed to drop to zero when not powered?
I suspect the DRAC is bad but I'm wondering if a problem in the speedometer is what caused it to fail?
If the DRAC is bad are there new ones available? I wasn't able locate anything other than junkyard units.
Thanks in advance.

The needle should already be at zero when the key is turned off since you shouldn't be moving when turning it off. If yours isn't at zero I would think there is something wrong with it, although a little off of zero is normal. My odometer doesn't work so there are probably issues with them. I recently bought like 5 VSSBs from the junkyard and a couple DRACs, pretty sure that's the only place to find them. I modified two DRACs to correct my speedometers and I have to do a VSSB now.

Re: Speedometer died.

I should've posted more information. I pulled the speedometer cluster and did an inspection. The needle was at zero when I opened it up. I found the needle some what stiff to move and it won't return back to zero on it's own. I left it at 55 mph when I put it back together and in the 2 tanks of gas since it has very slowly moved to down to 51 mph.
It would be nice to know if the needle should move easily enough to drop to zero when there is no signal from the DRAC. That would tell me if there is a problem in the speedometer unit.

Re: Speedometer died.

I just checked mine to see what it does. Key off it falls as low as it can. Key on it rises to zero.

Re: Speedometer died.

Thank you for that bit of information. It sounds like I have a bad speedometer in the cluster and possibly a bad DRAC.
Well, its off to the wrecking yard again. Man I hate Pick and Pull.
I really appreciate your quick replies to my inquires.
Thanks again.
