Hey man we all do what we can. Best to save the goodies for later and have them done the right way rather than skimp on average stuff. Trucks looks really really good for homemade paint work brother.

traded a basket case 82 goldwing for another 4l60e trans today. 4x4 from behind sbc. great and i sold my 2wd parts trans for 30 bucks lol. gonna cost me atleast twice that for a housing and output shaft. oh well life moves on.

Re: Green Beater

Made the payment and shipping out my pcm monday to have the initial programming done. Got the engine "refresher" kit ordered today should be in Monday.
Need to get off my butt and finish the wiring harness modification

Re: Green Beater

Made a trip to the local pull-a-part today.picked up a few things.

replacement dipstick since one with engine is bent and broke loose from bracket

complete air cleaner assembly with air intake hose, a mass air flow sensor, and mounting bracket ( guy i bought engine from was supposed to bring to me and never did)

throttle cable (same as above)

fuel line assembly from 99 2wd ( I have a plan laid out in my head)

passenger exhaust manifold without egr mounting, spent 20 minutes getting it off and then found one 5 minutes later laying in bed of another truck lol. mine had bolts broke off in egr hole and damaged flange

computer mounting bracket (another one of those things guy didn't bring back to me)

while there i found a 3 piece vortec 6000 engine cover that some one had painted the side covers purple...i bought it. may clean up repaint black and sell or may paint side covers od green and run on my truck

also picked up a new wiring harness with the fuse block attached. mine has 5 or 6 damaged pigtails and i got a complete unmolested harness for less than cost of mass air flow pigtail. got the fuse block cause personally i like the look of them on drivers fender.

all together spent 140 at pull-a-part. will take some pictures of my new junk and show you soon

Re: Green Beater

so my good luck continues. went out to the shed today to finish tearing down engine and found the 4th cam bearing spun out of the block. put my tools up, locked the shed and came back in the house.

guess i'll pull a couple of shade tree mechanic jobs ive been turning down and buy me a block from summit.

Re: Green Beater

why not just put new cam bearings in?

Jeramy 11-20-2016 02:19 AM

Re: Green Beater

same as with spinning a rod or main bearing. it oversizes the bore. don't have the crank out yet where i can get a good look in there but from the looks of the back side of bearing and the very rough feel of the block would definitely take some machine work if fixable at all. you can buy a ready to run block from summit for 300 plus freight. will try yo pull the crank tomorrow and see if i can get a camera in there to get a picture and see how bad it looks.

Liltroy 11-20-2016 11:39 PM

Re: Green Beater

I've replaced plenty of spun rod and main bearings with no issues after. Heck, I once replaced three spun rod bearings in a 400 pontiac while it was in the car and my buddy drove it for almost 10,000 miles before selling it. Although I could see your concern with a spun cam bearing since they're completely round with no tabs like a rod or main bearing. I've never had a spun cam bearing though, only severely worn ones that I've replaced so I guess thats why I've never had any issues with replacement. But for $300 for a new block with bearing already installed, and since you're rebuilding it anyway, Id probably go that route as well.

Re: Green Beater

not much to update here. talked to a local machine shop which said they could repair my block but would give me no estimate on cost other than to say engine would need a complete "work over" meaning, cleaning, align hone mains, hone cylinders, machine the damaged cam bearing bore and then "build" me a custom cam bearing to fit. I can buy a ready to go block for 400 (summit 299 plus freight is 409 total). have had the money a couple of times and ended up spending it on family must haves. did reread through a couple of swap threads to help keep me motivated.

then had two injectors go inop on me,
took first real full power test drive tonight. all of this has been worth it.
