Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
Checked your fuel lines lately?
Kent, a friend of mine that's been helping on my restoration called a while ago, then sent some pics via email. Was driving along with his wife and the truck caught on fire. Fuel line leak somewhere. They're both OK, thank God, but his 79 is "toast" figuratively speaking. I've ridden in this truck many times. It had the wheels from the truck I'm restoring now, on it. Sure hated to hear about it and even worse, to see it like this. He sent some pics, thought I would post them here: http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck005.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck007.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck008.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck010.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck012.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck013.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck016.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck018.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck025.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...t/truck034.jpg |

Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
Must have 'overheated' since there is no radiator! Sorry, I know it's in bad taste but I had to say it :-). Glad the truck was the only sacrifice here. . .

HOLY COW! That looks like the vehicles that fire departments use for training...cars with accelerants in them. That was one nasty fire! Glad they are ok. Sorry to hear about the truck.

X3 ......Glad no one was hurt ! Guys, While your checking those fuel lines don't forget the hoses at the tank sending unit, I just found a cracked one on my 97 last weekend. I had replaced them all 5 yrs. ago for the PO, I'm going back this time with braided lines. |

Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
Holy cow. Sucks to see a square go out like that but it's a good thing everyone is okay though.

Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
Sorry to see any Square totaled...
I got blasted here about warning members about rubber fuel lines leaking at the engine , especially this photo. GM installs a 1 piece line from the pump to Carb for a reason, this is it. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...7/DSCN0223.png Desert |
Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**

i prefer to use FI clamps they don't shred the rubber lost two friends(a couple) in a car/gas fire almost 20 years ago the PO of this truck had a electric fuel pump between the block pump and the carb never shut off, seemed to have sucked threw the 1/4 return enough to cause it to crack |

Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
Sorry to hear about his truck, glad they are both OK though!
Although, on a positive note, I am very happy to see that this truck lived a nice long life at 107 years, that there is still enough fossil fuels left in the future to power these gas hungry beasts, and most of all that time travel was finally discovered and used to send us these pictures from 2086 to warn us about these 107 year old rubber fuel lines  |
Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
Thanks for the reminder. Poor truck.:whine:

A little practice and it's pretty easy, doesn't take much time. Can't believe all the nice cars I see with tons of money and time spent only to use a cheap (and dangerous) rubber fuel line up to the carb. Always been a pet pieve of mine. Keep the rubber lines to a minimum and short as possible (frame to engine/sending unit to frame). Glad to hear everyone is okay. |
Re: Checked your fuel line lately? **UP IN SMOKE**
THat's sorta what my truck looked like 35 years ago when I learned about not useing rubber fuel lines. At least I had a tailgate left over. Not a mark on it. It got used on another truck till it to went to that great metal scrap pile in the sky. It didn't survive the second time. Freight train got it!!
You don't even need to know how to flare lines. Just buy pre-built lines at the auto emporium and bend them to fit. |
