'68 C30 Cummins swap
Picked up a fairly clean old farm truck to build a work truck for myself, it's a cab and chassis that has had the frame shortened and a flatbed installed. I work 6-7 days a week and don't have the time to drive anything fun these days, that's about to change!
Truck has a nice running 350 with a PTO 4 speed and an Eaton rear end, I bought a '93 D350 donor vehicle with an intercooled 12v 5 speed and Dana rear axle. Plan to do the mechanicals and get it on the road ASAP and focus on the body over the winter eventually turning it into a crew cab. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...097FA8CA4C.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...1759DF6751.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...7732EFA602.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...5F5B99474C.jpg |

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Been working 7 days a week and lucky enough to work an 8 today so I had a chance to really look the truck over. It still has the build # on the passenger inner fender and original paint on everything except the drivers door and rocker. Some rust on the d.s. rocker, one spot on the headliner, and a small spot on door. It's a cab and chassis that was shortened at some point, the longhorn bed came with the deal and only has rust in the 6" extensions so I'll be welding up the seam.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
I see them all. Very cool project, King. I like the Dodge pictures. I used to run out of a '70 C/30 and could never get the idea of a diesel conversion out of my head, but moved to another truck. Are those stainless acorn caps on stock castle-type or acorn nuts for lug nuts?

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Thanks, I wasn't planning on taking any pics at the scrap yard....a guy was firing up a loader to put forks on when the claw came over and picked it up, luckily I was quick enough with the phone!
The lugs are tapered acorns and don't belong on there, the wheels are the later 16". Hopefully I can work on it this weekend and post some progress pics! |
Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Any patina preservation experts on here? I've painted plenty of cars and panels but never tried to match anything old and faded, lol. I would like to fix the rust and paint the bed without it standing out too much.
Thanks, Jon |
Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Other projects took priority but I'm back at it again! I hope to remove the engine/Trans and install the Cummins tomorrow.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Very cool truck! I love the cab and chassis DRW trucks with a Longhorn bed. The rotary engine will make a great truck out of it. You should love it. Bump the timing, a fuel pin, gov spring, kdp check, some other gaskets I bet, and you'll be good to go!
