Filler neck gasket

2 Attachment(s)
I need a fuel filler neck gasket for my 72 truck that has a longer flexible "rib/lip" at the top. I ordered the "correct" one (kind of a hard rubber with a little flange on the base) which just won't work on my truck.
Check out the photos. I need a gasket like the one I had to cut off (in pic)

Looks like the standard 1 1/2" gas filler grommet to me. Did what you recieved have a 2" I.D.? If so it isn't the correct one for the tank that you have. We have several of each in stock. (Genuine GM) Here is a picture of the two different styles.

WES-
the one in the left photo looks like the one that fit. I just went and measured the width of the actual filler neck and it measures 2 1/4".
The NEW one that won't fit came from LMC.....it is "stamped" in the rubber.
The OLD one has no ID markings at all.

The grommets that you get from LMC are junk. They are the ones made in India and even if you get them to fit, they crack within the first year. When you measure the filler neck you need to measure it below the spout. Measure the tube itself just above the tank. That is what the grommet seals against. The 71-72 trucks, unless the tank has been changed, use the 1 1/2" grommet. We have plenty in stock if you need one. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I replaced the gas tank (the old one rusted) and the neck is DEFINITELY 2 inches.
This old truck was pieced together when I got it, but I like it anyway!

Just about all of the trucks out here are put together from a couple of different trucks. The O.D. of the filler neck itself will be larger that 1 1/2" because it will need to stretch the grommet a little to be able to seal it. What is the I.D. of the grommet you have?

the old one cracked in multiple places around the lip of the interior diameter, and then I had to cut it to get it off. If there is NO such thing as a 2", I guess I will have to hope that a 1 1/2" will stretch. One of the hangups in installing the last one it the the filler neck angled up so high from the cab hole.....you probably can see it in the picture.
