Rear carpet question

I am installing a carpet kit in the rear of my 72 blazer. I noticed the front of the carpet continues passed the front edge where the carpet strip goes and continues to the front area pan. It is even cut to match the center hump. Is the carpet suppose to travel this far or stop at the carpet strip.
I ask because I had rubber flooring in it before.
Thanks

Re: Rear carpet question

It should stop at the carpet strip before it drops over the edge. That's how the factory did it. I ran mine over the edge and down to the floor line then I cut it. I like how it looks like that

Thanks, did you use the carpet strip also or just bend it down over the edge.

Re: Rear carpet question

My carpet kit had that extra bit attached to the rear carpet section too. It is not technically correct, as the factory carpet never covered the vertical step up. It was left exposed and painted. However, I did opt to cover the step up with carpet (and fat mat sound deadener) to keep the cab as qiet as possible. I just creased the carpet to make the 90 degree bend, installed the carpet strip, and tucked the loose end of the carpet under the front carpet section.
