I use a good quality 10-40 w oil, but 10-30 w is also recommended by the manuafacturer.

I replace the filter and put in 4 quarts and start the engine and run it for a few minutes. A few minutes after the engine is turned off, then I check the level and add to full. I think when you use the long oil filter the capacity of the engine and filter is 5 quarts for a 250 l6.

Yep 5 quarts. I used 20-50 in mine, but since it never gets cold enough down here it was good, Up your way I would use a 10-40.

Here in Texas, I used to always use 30 weight on all my vehicles -summer and winter. Now it's hard to find straight 30 weight so I use the 10/30 in summer and 10/40 in the winter. I use 5 quarts with filter change every
3000 miles.

Holy crap, I used a 5.28 quart jug fired her up and killed every mosquito in town. Smoked like a demon and had oil dripping out the tailpipe. Thought it wa a straight 5 quart jug but apparently the .28 quart over makes a big difference. At least I hope that's it!

Note....... Yes I know this thread is from 08, but like everyone always says, I was using the search Button, lol
