Just picked this up.... 84 Custom Deluxe K30. Wanted it for the drivetrain for a 63 k30 build id like to do, but im really leaning toward putting it back on the road for a bit. Not crazy options, but not crazy molested either... what was standard ratio for a k30 with a 4speed. A spid says is GQ1??? Any ideas? Ill eventually take off diff covers and change gear oil and look for stampings on ring gear... any clue? Enjoy the pics...

Cool truck! Up 'til now it looks like it's been looking for love in all the wrong places. Hopefully it convinces you to keep it together for a good long while. It's always great to see one of these get cleaned up and back on the road so keep us posted if you get the chance.

K30’s are hard to find. Put some love into that thing and watch it’s value increase!

I have a box here for it, but debating if i should look for some good box sides. Started it last night, carb float is sticking, needs a carb kit, but no biggie there. Time is the issue at this point. Id love to use it for winter in its worker condition, but wife wants our master bathroom done, so weel see... last two years have been home remodel priorities over vehicles....

A working K30 sure would be useful to haul home those home remodeling supplies in the winter snows.

Nice K30, single rear wheel K30's getting kinda rare.

Do what I do, 50/50 50% of time spent on house and 50% time spent on cars and trucks. Then everyone is happy

The GM Heritage Center has vehicle information kits. Here's the 1984 Chevrolet Truck order sheet.

It looks like since its not a dually it's going to have 3.73 gears.

Sounds like it's TRUCK TIME!

But don't get yourself in a bind at home. Maybe that fitty/fitty thing legendman suggested would work.

I reference those sheets a bit. Here's something else cool from there. 1984 Chevrolet Pickup Truck Brochure

A lever lock is used to lock the rear brakes. When released the brakes work normally. When in lock, it acts as a 1-way valve holding the rear brakes on after the petal is released. So to use it flip it to lock and press the brake petal. Once the petal is released the rear brakes should stay on. To take it off, push the brakes and flip it to release. If every thing is working the brakes should release once you stop pressing the petal.

There normally used as an extra safety device. Like wreckers, brush trucks and on trucks with a boom lift. There are probably other uses but those are the ones I know of. Also being from MN. My guess is it was used with gravity boxes(grain carts), for hold the truck well loading or when waiting inline at the elevator. With out knowing anything about the truck, it just gives off a farm truck vibe. As I'm not sure why else you have one.

Yes. My 86 K30 has one. It was a Fire Truck mini pumper in a previous life and has a manual transmission.

Does it say Mico on that lever lock?

https://www.mico.com/brake-lock-trou...ing/lever-lock

There was a Mico lock in every wrecker I drove back in the day, except they were setup to lock all four wheels for winching.

That's a bruiser! Congrats on the find. I have an 83 (sig).

It's also called a line lock. Used in drag racing to lock the front wheels during burnouts.
I have a TCI version in my K20. An excellent 2nd hand (foot) in manual trans vehicles mostly on inclines.
