Cheap / crummy 4L60 shifter cable

Ultimately I’d like a standard shift, but have a 4L60. I didn’t want a traditional B&M ratchet shifter, or a $500 Lokar setup temporarily, but needed to still shift predictably.

I ended up with a pretty cheap / ghetto-fabulous floor mounted PTO knob shifter. Using the factory shift lever, the factory shift cable mounting bracket and a little welding….i used a 30” long push/pull control cable (purchased from Steinjäger, Inc part number J0047899) a clevis with 10-32 threads and a PTO knob from eBay to fab up a push/pull shifter down on the floor. All in was about $90.

I like it. Thief proofs the truck, as a side benefit.

Neutral safety switch on the trans shaft ? Hard to tell from the pics.

No NSS. The factory electronics are on the side of the trans, wired up into the cab so I can make a NSS with relays etc, but currently the starter solenoid just rolls straight through the ignition switch.

Yeah you have do it with relays. The wiring in the trans shaft module can't handle the amps of the starter wire. I would do it. If you or someone else starts the truck in drive or reverse it could be bad.
Side note. I've used Lokar shifters on a number of LS/4L60E swaps and they have been bullet proof. But they have gone crazy price wise. Even the cheaper B&M shifters are close behind price wise.

I was close to pulling the trigger on a nice Lokar until I realized an AR5 can be had for the same price. Granted, some doodads to add to an AR5 to make it work, but doesn’t require the full disassembly a T56 does to relocate the shifter, and a new ring & pinion.

This is the “for now” solution.
