Wheel Vintiques fitment

Anyone have issues with this lip hitting the rear brake drums? Any solutions other than a grinder? Checked a pair of oem and they dont have this lip. Wheel only seats half way on the studs.

Is that the Wheel Vintiques series 62, OEM type of hubcap wheel ?

Re: Wheel Vintiques fitment

I believe it is the series 55

Re: Wheel Vintiques fitment

Series 55 is a Ford Mustang wheel.

I'm not trying to muddy up your thread with inane details. But, I have a set of the OEM hubcap Wheel Vintiques wheels sitting in my shopping cart at Summit Racing, so I'm following this closely.

Re: Wheel Vintiques fitment

Yes they are a 62.

Re: Wheel Vintiques fitment

Took that lip off with a grinder but they still won't fit. So the entire lip needs to be trimmed, or they just will not work.

I found out that I have the 2.75" brake pads (HD) which may make the drums wider and cause this. I tried a different set of drums, but it didn't help. I think the lip needs to come down more since I tried an OEM steelie and it fit fine, but putting it and the Wheel Vintique beside it there is a noticeable difference with that lip.

Re: Wheel Vintiques fitment

Bad news huh ? There goes your nice finish on the back of the wheel I guess.

Reviving this one to see if changes have been made or if people are still having issues with fitment. I just put an order in with Wheel Vintiques for the 62 series (15x7 with a 4.24 BS).

Has anybody else had issues with this 62 series wheel?

If you have the HD rear drums, there can be an interference issue depending on the size/back-spacing.

Re: Wheel Vintiques fitment

hmm, looks like I'll have to do a search to see what a HD rear drum measures and then measure mine.

I don't what to have to grind but if its minor I guess I'll just have to take a little of the top.

Go to your local parts store & grab a drum for the HD app & the standard brakes. Set each in a wheel & compare.

Jezzus, of course, that makes sense. And here I was gonna break out the 'ol measuring tape . Great idea, thank you.

Just keep the receipt & the parts clean/un-damaged for easy returns.

I was thinking of measuring them right then and there and later compare to those measurements to mine at home.

Now if it so happens that I do have the HD drums, what all is involved to switch over to "standard drums"? Drums, backing plate and brake shoes? What did I leave out?

That's it. I don't recall any internals being different when I did the conversions.

Thank you for your help. Now nothing left to do but wait for the wheels and the hub caps I got on eBay. Thank again!

Is your truck lowered? The 4 1/4 bs is more along the lines of the van wheels and tucks the wheels further into the wheel well.

yes, 5/7". I am running 20" at the moment with spacers out back. I think they are 1/2" spacers. and I was thinking of running 1/4" in front.

Does the stock OEM wheel have 3.75 of BS?

Would 3.50" BS on the 62 series be a better fit?

For reference, I measured some stock 15x6 steelies this morning & they were 3 5/8BS (from the hub pad to the outside edge of the wheel lip). Not sure of 7'' wheels. My bet would be 3.75-4".

EDITED:
On a side note, Wheel Vintiques sometimes just aren't fun to deal with. I've been trying to get technical info on their 17" 62 series. Finally was able to get a human by going to the 'place an order' extension (vs technical questions extension). I inquired about what (if any) brake upgrade 'kits' would/could work w/the 17" version of these wheels. I specifically asked about the most common big-brake upgrade kit (C5/PBR 2-piston caliper/13" rotors) like what you'd get from Baer or CPP. The answer? 'They don't know exactly'....

He said he would need to know the dimensions of my brake kit to tell me if they 'might' fit. I questioned the logic saying that since I wanted to run a 'steelie' that I kind of needed to know what would/could fit vs buying a brake kit first & hoping it would work w/their wheels. "That makes sense" was the response.

I do have a C5/C6 set of calipers & a 340mm (Z51) rotor that were slated for a previous C10. I've been thinking of re-allocating the calipers & SS flex lines to use on something else w/a smaller standard 325mm rotor. Kinda' want to know if they'll fit within the wheel before commiting to purchase adapter brackets & parts.

I called the people over at wheel vintiques to ask them a couple questions but no answer I even sent them an email and my message was blocked hmm...anyway, If I were to add that 1/4" spacer that would bring the BS to 4" which I hope will be fine. Unless of course my math is off and that's a good possibility.

Check out this thread...

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=766038

I believe I went through the same thing you are going through... I had a 70 c10, but it had a 5 lug rear out of a Squarebody with the larger brake drums. Series 62’s wouldn’t fit at all... ended up swapping rear brakes for a set from a 72. Still 5 lugs but smaller/different drum mounting surface. Hardest part was finding the backing plates. Everything else I bought from NAPA.

See if that helps at all...

Heres a list of what I have, but I'm not lowered so don't need to worry about any clearance issues with body panels. Thats why I asked if you where lowered due to the b.s. you had. My trucks are not lowered, so I tend to prefer less b.s. in general.

aftermarket 15x8's with 4" b.s
15x8 1986 rallys are also 4" b.s.
15x7 1983 rallys are 3.5" b.s.
15x6.5 1984 van rallys, 4" b.s. (I no longer have these)
15x7 6-hole chrome wheels have 4" b.s. (the chrome style like used on the 1990 454ss, do not know the source or specific year of these) These where on my '81 when I got it. Picture of those is in the topper thread if you can't picture what they look like.

Van Ralleys are 6.5".

I did get a chance to read that link you posted. It appears that he used a 1/4" spacer in front and the 11"x2" rear drums...one option I am considering is a rear disc swap and that would fix the rear end issue. Thank you for that link.

IF the rotor & caliper are small enough & the correct offset {it depends on what kit you use).
