1977 Chevrolet K10 Trailering Special
1 Attachment(s)
Last year at this time, I helped an a Friend with some horse feeding chores; she had health issues. Fast forward to November 2020: I got a phone call “ are you interested in my farm truck? I don’t know what year it is.” So we went and looked at it, and lo and behold, square body SWB k10! I took trans out and took to the shop for a rebuild. It was rebuilt before, but bad installation job.

I decided that since I’m waiting on the trans, I would take the fenders off, so I don’t have to bend over the engine to change valve cover gaskets. It was an original 400, but someone put a 350 in it recently.

Re: 1977 Chevrolet K10 Trailering Special
I pulled the oil cap yesterday, and a very strong odor of fuel was present. I have made the decision to pull the engine and check the rings. The carb could have been pouring fuel in cylinders (which washes the oil film off of the cylinders and premature internal engine failure takes place).

Re: 1977 Chevrolet K10 Trailering Special
Pulled the heads today. This engine had been rebuilt before; clean inside. One of the first things I noticed was it had 624 heads. They have 1.72 intake valve head diameter. I will be upgrading to 1.94’s or 2.02’s. Also, one of the exhaust valves was sunk. Pulled the oil pan, and discovered that it’s a 4 bolt main! Hopefully, all I need to do is re-ring and new bearings. Before then, of course, I will have to put an intake/carb/head package together.

That is one of the best optioned, least farm like farm trucks I have seen. That's a great find.
