Re: Here is my 58'

Its there..just cant see it in the pics...It will have a 4-link. with a rolling sleeve air bag,but not the small ones. My red dually I just posted pics of over in the 88-98 thread, has a rolling sleeve bag off of a semi trailer. They arent huge like some may think. They are around 8.5-9 inch in diameter and get around 10-11 lift. Either that or I have a pair of 8503 firestone double convoluted bags that are rated at 3600lbs. a piece.I have a 9' in the rear for now but have been thinking I'd like to try a 9.25" sterling rear axle out of a newer ford super crew truck. They have disc brakes with a internal parking brake and 13" rotors factory. The reason for the over kill bags/axle setup is mainly because I want to use this truck to pull a trailer. I know the 9" will be strong enough because it has proven itself over the years but I was just thinking out side the box..

I know it has been awhile but I was wondering why you cut the mustang II crossmember in half? Was it the wrong one? I am asking because I just came across one that is also to short and am debating if I could cut it in half also.

Re: Here is my 58'

Fat Mike,
When I bouhgt the truck it was said it had a MII front suspension with tube arms and 5 lug conversion. When I arrived at the sellers house he showed me the body and frame. The frame was short and narrow. I pulled a tape measure and noticed it was only about 29" out side of frame rail to out side frame rail. I already knew the factory frame was closer to 34". I asked about the narrow frame and he told me the frame was built for a 66' volkswagon bug. He was going to make it front engine/rear drive but gave up and decided to build a truck. Thats why I had to widen the crossmember. I have since began a new chassis that has the front geometery of a second gen camaro (70-81). Ill post pics as soon as I get the chassis squared away. Thanks for looking!

I also came across a mustang II frontend that measures about 29" as well. That why I wasn't sure how the progress of your build was going or if you were still going to use it.

Re: Here is my 58'

I actually had it complete and a friend wanted the chassis. What I did was cut out the middle section and gussetted and plated the center back in where I needed.
