Best wheel size for 4" drop
Just finished installing 4" drop springs in the rear of my stepside 68. Right now it has the original 465 4 speed and 4:11 posi gears. I've decided to ditch the 6 banger and go either small block or ls swap, depending on what I can afford. Regarding wheels, what would be the optimum tire/wheel size with a 4" drop that would help me not turn too many rpms at highway speeds, and not rub or stick out past the fenders? I would like them tucked in nice and tight. I also know someone with a set of 3:08 gears that I can get, so that may be an option also.

Re: Best wheel size for 4" drop
Your gonna want the tallest tire you can fit without rubbing, but there really is no way around the 4:11s being a screaming highway gear with a 4 speed. The 3:08s would be the better for highway use, but its gonna not be real fun with a stick in town.

Re: Best wheel size for 4" drop
I'm getting ready to see with my '68, and pretty stoked about my upcoming drop. The rear is at 2", and is dropping another 3" - the front will be 4" Using the corvette style rallye wheels - 7" in front, and 8" in back (15's) Front tire 235/70/15 and rear 275/60/15. Had the rearend rebuilt a year or so ago and stayed with new 3:08 gears and added an Eaton POSI. Really love how it runs.
