Exhaust kits
I inadvertently posted this in for sale section and got no response, Duh.
I'm looking for a bolt on exhaust system and came across the Magnaflow one. They call it cross member back, 2 1/2", all stainless, exits behind the rear tires. They also sell the down pipe kit to hook to the original exhaust manifolds. Has any one used this kit and have any troubles? Pricey but stainless should last forever. Opinions? Thanks in advance for any feed back. |
Re: Exhaust kits
I purchased a magnaflow kit for my 01 Silverado. It was an easy install, but it does have a droan to it. Probably apples to oranges but just throwing it out there.

Re: Exhaust kits
Have you tried you local muffler shop ? kit exhaust are just that KITS and your sure to get a better deal at your local shop ? if it's a daily driver why waste the $ on stainless when a nice custom install not only looks better less chance of leaks and your keeping a local guy working ? and if you have a problem he's there to fix it ???????? Everything that's mail order is not always a better deal !:chevy:

Re: Exhaust kits
Exhaust kits from magnaflow are better than almost anything you'll get locally. On this forum there's a lot of older guys (NO OFFENSE MEANT) who knock "kits" because back in the day they really were junk and you were better off getting a custom system. Nowadays a lot of exhaust kits are top notch. Plus most exhaust shops bends look like they bent it over their knee. A system like magnaflow will have all mandrel bends. Oh and use stainless band clamps. Better than welds because they seal up perfectly and if you ever need to remove your exhaust system it all comes apart easily.

Re: Exhaust kits
I haven't looked into the Magnaflow kit, but I've been looking at the Hooker kit. It isn't stainless, but it does have mandrel bent 2 1/4" pipe and includes everything but the mufflers. It's also pretty reasonably priced. Anybody use this kit?

Re: Exhaust kits
I have a 2 1/4 inch "kit" and had to have it all welded because it wouldn't seal no matter what I tried. I hate that ticking noise of exhaust leaks

I just installed this heartthrob kit
It was meant for a square body but with some welding it went in with some careful planning and cutting Mandral bends and aluminumized. I allready had the mufflers and i made ss tips from tubing i allready had. Welded everything and no leaks. I'm happy and it saved me a bunch of dough since I got it from cl. I agree on the muffler shops some can do some really nice work and some can do horrible jobs. my advice would be ask around the local dudes they'll know who does good work. Ya gotta remember most kits are made for stock trucks so if your lowered beware. Pay attention to kits for leaf or trailing arms also. |
