Painting chrome ?

1 Attachment(s)
I got the last of my chrome back from the chrome shop..
on my emblems the wording is supposed to be black...the chrome guy said ,scuff the areas with 180, use etching primer, and then paint..
Well the hood emblem was easy enough...about a 2x3 area...but on the emblems the word "drive" and "series" are also supposed to be black..the words are recessed into the emblem and i cant get in there with sand paper, and also dont want to scuff the chrome..for reference on the word drive the letter is just under 1/8", and series is about 1/16"
How can I scuff this? Or does it need scuffing? And just paint it

I know you are going to call me crazy with fancy new chrome like that but I would tape off the whole thing with double layers of duct tape and cut out what you want "scuffed." Find someone with glass bead in a cabinet blaster and blast gently down into the letters to give you enough profile for the primer and paint to grab.

I've got access to a glass bead blaster at work...that might work

Well I finally bit the bullet and painted the emblems...the chrome man said clean it and just paint it, another paint guy said just paint it, and the local body shop guy said just paint it...so dang it ,I just painted it..
Got some really fine brushes at the paint store but they didint work to good..so the local guy said just slobber the paint all over the wording and before it dries wipe it off the chrome...well that worked great..
So I did 3 "applications " of painting and wiping...it worked out well..then I set them over my heater to help bake the enamel...I'm hollering calfrope on it...now I just need a painted truck to hang em on...
