Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

They are Flowtech. They were $265 from Summit. They are ok, but the overall finish is just not what you'd see from the Headman Elites or anything. The fit and quality is acceptable I just wish the ceramic coating was a little nicer. Of course they weren't 600 bucks either.. No clearance problems at all. Pretty good actually IMO.

will be interested to see how low the headers hang after the drop

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

Hoping when I stick my foot in it, it lifts up high enough it won't be a problem. (Kidding)

Yeah, I agree. I will have 20's on the front soon hopefully, not sure what dia tires just yet but I'm going to get that center line measurement before I drop the front. I would think a 2.5" spindle and 2" spring right now but I'm not sure really. With the BB, I'm going to be a little nose heavy too so I'm not going super low with it. I'm pretty particular with measuring and backspace, sidewall height, etc so I'll hopefully get it figured out to work together.

What size and backspace do you guys usually run for 20x8.5 on the front? Thinking Eagle 225's right now but not sure. What's a good wheel / tire combo? There is an awesome copper colored 68 on here with 225's on it. I have been meaning to PM him for his size / drop.

My truck has the 73-87 k member swap if that matters on the front spacing.

Thanks for the compliments!

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

You need 5 or 6 lug? Do you have some centers you'd like to convert? It's pretty cool really, my dad makes them up. The top piece is off a flat center like you'd see on a Corvette Rally. The ID on the rally center is the same as the OD on the truck rally top. The tricky part is making the adapter to have a retainer for the 4 screws to hold the cap on and remain straight and flush / tight with the caps.

The centers new (re-pop) are about $20 each new, so x4 plus the cost of the GM centers (used), a little for my dad + the ride. You interested? I can hook you up with a nice set too. He will detail the base, shine the chrome up, etc. They look really nice when done but are custom built on his workbench. This is not a machine cut / mass produced thing. Just a favor for my C10 friends.

We could do 5 word, or 3 word caps. Of course 5 or 6 lug. Let me know.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

Naa, I have been pretty busy lately with my kitchen project, and just life in general. I have been working with dad some on the ole blue 68, and we about have it ready to go. We're goinf to finish up the logos/ patina work on it, lower it 3/4 or 3/5 in the next week or so... And DRIVE IT!

That's a good ole truck man. Everything on it mechanically is solid, runs down the road good and straight and the Muncie makes it a blast to drive. The cab is really good in the floors (needs some rocker work and corners) but overall, just having fun with Dad's truck.

I have a Magnaflow kit for my Big Block truck, 2.5" dropped spindles, all new shock relocators, adjustable track bar, shocks, etc. I have a bunch of stuff to put on it just not enough time in the day. I need to get some header plugs, I have a few spark plug wires a little close to the header, need my TH400 input shaft, drive shaft, power steering pump, trans cooler lines, and some other little stuff. I'm about ready to fire it up! I can't wait to hear it run.

I'll post some pics soon.

Some progress!

I got my front and rear fenders back from media blast today. I also had the gravel shield blasted. Rickey has my hood now, supposed to get it back the first of the week. Not just because he did mine but, really. If you're in the South East and need anything blasted professionally this is the guy you want to talk to IMO.

Media Blasted, PPG DP Epoxy primed and turned around in 3 days for $450. These fenders are clean. I am way impressed with his work and will take much more to him in the future. Great guy .. Tell him Chad Coley sent you. He does all of Corky Coker's work. He has a 53 Studebaker pickup in his shop right now. Pretty cool.

I have some minor dings to work out but to blast original metal and it come out like this in first prime .. I think we can get them straightened up.

Most of this stuff is West Coast, I cant wait to start blocking on it. :metal:

We are going to hang it this weekend and do some test fitting / adjusting. I'll post up some more pics soon.

Dad went to pick up my hood this morning. I think it turned out great. One small ding in the front lip on the pass side, and the seam in the center of the hood has a slight ding in it but this is one of the cleanest 68 hoods I have ever seen. I'll gladly work two dents out over repairing rust. The front edge is really nice and has the holes for trim and hood letters.
