Are you building or commuting in your S10?

I was wondering the other day if you guys in this forum are mostly commuting in your S10's or are they your project trucks? Lets hear it...

You've seen my thread. That's really all I've done to it. Maybe 1" more in the front for a drop and then drop the rear. I'd also like to take out the bedliner and line the bed. That's really about it. I like driving it too, I'm happy to have a manual again!

I use my S10 Blazer as a DD. It's all stock, I haven't done anything to it. If the motor ever dies, I'll drive my gas-guzzling 77 Chevy Van and convert the S10 to V8 and 700R4.

my 96 4x4 is actually the wife's grocery getter. this winter it will serve double duty as a way to have fun with my 10 YO son. just dont tell her. as far as she knows it is so she can safely get around town in case of heavy snow. hehehe

My dime has there called on another forum. I use it for my DD my lumber getter.
I was talking with my Boss, He had mentioned getting me a van. So if that happens, I will probably drop in a 350.

My son & I had to make a Menard's run the other day & we saw a very nice 1st gen S10 with a V8 & HUGE back tires. I have always liked those in prostreet trim.

Here is a picute of mine the way I bought it. Believe or not I get alot of attention with it. I guess the faded paint job gives it a patina :). Been thinking about painting a logo on then door to complete the look.;)

I've had mine for a couple of months -- had to get the R-12 re-charged and the fuel pump changed out.

When the hurricane hit and i was deployed, this thing was a lot easier to tow than my full size, plus it gets into tight spots and streets with tree limbs partially blocking, etc.

Great truck so far, so i guess you could say i'm "commuting" in it.
Only prob is the 4.3 6 banger is oly knocking down 15.5 - 16 mpg, so i am thinking about changing the plugs and wires and going from there --- i would think it should get at least 20.

It also makes a great tailgating rig, as the pics will attest to

My 91' sonoma was my daily driver/show truck.I'll post pics tomarrow. It has been in the forgotten stage for 3 yrs now. I sold the torq thrust's to buy some wider rears. I was messing with it today. Ill be bringing it home tomarrow as it will under go a complete redo starting this weekend. When finished it will be back to being driven as much as possible. I have thought about doing a 350 TBI install but wasnt sure. Every one I know has had problems with leaking headers and collector issues where the hit the floor pans. Any one know of a good set of headers out there?

Mine has kind of turned into a project truck but I need to get to work on it so I can turn it back into a commuter vehicle. I lowered it & now I need to notch the frame. The cab corners are rusty & I have new ones I want to weld in. I bought a take off step bed to replace the rusty fleet bed so off comes the bed & I can take out all 3 birds at the same time. I may have to make a post your s10 pics sticky at the top of this board!

It might be more cash, but i have thought of a mild performance rebuild on the existing 4.3 thats in mine at some point. It seems to me to be the ideal engine for these trucks unless you are going racing.
Its lighter than a V-8 and can probably make as much horsepower as a mild 350 (but les tq), stock, it already will bury the speedo needle easilly --

a little more compression, better flowing heads and more fuel and who knows --- maybe not exactly 350 territory, but would likely easily surpass 305 numbers

Mine is the vortech ('96) & it has all the power that little truck could need. It will lay down a black mark a block long. Not that Ive ever done it... ;)

when i can afford to drive it i do, just mainly sits in the drive because its not a practical vehicle for me(wife and 4 kids). mild 355 aoto/overdire trans 373 rear gets a little over 20 highway. its alot of fun to drive, but the suburban gets the most attention for family duties.
