235 bypass oil filter question
 

So I’m hoping I don’t have to go back into the garage and put the plug and oil pressure sensor back on but i just installed the oil lines for my bypass oil filter on my 235. I believe my motor is a 57’ block but doesn’t have any numbers on the deck by the distributor which I believe makes it a replacement motor in the 61 Apache.
Anyways I’m reading a lot of few discussions on this forum and a few others, and now I’m hoping that putting on this filter was not a bad idea.

I hear some people say you don’t need them, just change your oil more often.
Don’t use synthetic.

And some people I’ve read say only use synthetic if I use the filter,
Then some are saying that’s it’s not a true full flow system and I have to make a modification to the head?

I’m so confused...

Like a dummy the lines were leaking oil all over, I over looked that I needed to seal the fittings. I sealed them. I’m hoping I don’t have to worry any any leaks.
I also used toilet paper for the filter

Well I hit a road block. I couldn’t get the oil lines to stop leaking, and and as soon as I went back to plug the hole with the oil sensor, the damn threads are stripped, i can’t acrew the sensor back in.

Does anyone know the thread pitch? Maybe I could save myself and get a tap and re tap the engin block.
Oh boy I hope I didn’t scew myself...

Any help is great appreciated. Hope to get her back in the road...

Measure the outside diameter. If it is about 3/8", it is 1/8" tapered pipe.

So I’ll have to find a tapered Tap as well or will a new sending unit that has a tapered pipe should be able thread back in?

If the sender is all that is stripped, yes, just clean any shavings in the block and screw the new one in. If you were using straight pipe threaded parts for the filter installation, that would be the cause of the leaks. Post a pic of those fittings, and we can help sort it out.
